The Kalinka Malinka Restaurant (named after a fairy tale) looks non-descript from the outside, but when we went for lunch [Caviar at a very good price(for caviar), Pelmini & Soup] we were charmed by the log-cabin decor and the service was very nice: even to the point of the waiter telling us not to eat dark bread with the caviar,... A group us from my tour group were looking for a traditional Russian restaurant in the downtown area of St. Petersburg and we came upon this place which was also recommended by our tour guide. I know many reviews indicate that this was a tourist trap and that it was expensive. Honestly, those people probably were eating at fast food... More

Our guidebook raved about this restaurant, but after visiting here, we refused to eat at any other places recommended by that book. The food wasn't terrible, but it was expensive. The duo singing Russian folk songs were pretty good, but it felt awkward. Strangely one of the biggest problems with this place is that it was empty. During the time... More

This was the most expensive restaurant and the worst food that I had during my 10-day trip to SP. Also exceptionally unfriendly waiter. Nothing to recommend this place.

Went there with my two teenagers following a recommendation on a paper guide of St Petersburg. The food is at best average, the service very slow and the prices quite steep.

Several of us were on a guided tour while in St. Petersburg. We were dropped off at a busy square near the Nevsky Prospect and give 1 hour for lunch. The restaurant was styled to look like an Russian farm house. The food was good--a pork steak with a side of potatoes and slaw, but it did take a while... More

The only good thing I can say about this place is that the waiter talked english. On the other side prices are very high, the service is very slow and the food is not very tasty.

The soups were OK but my chicken Kiev was ready-made, frozen then micorwaved and deep fried – not exactly the expected authentic food I was after…and definitely not worth the almost £20 price. There are plenty of good restaurants in St Pete. Best to avoid this one!

Close to Nevsky Prospect and with Russian food the restaurant charges far to much compared ta similar restaurants. I can´t recommend it.

This place may have once been great, but it's in several guidebooks and is skating. Its Russian specialties are sloppily executed and twice as expensive as at other places. The staff seems tired. No one there but tourists.
