This place specializes in ikura, and lots of it. The house rule is that in exchange for their generous servings, you finish it all, including the rice it comes on. Food was good and reasonably priced. Unless you're going very early or very late, make sure you have reservations -- the place is small, and gets very full.

The atmosphere is the restaurant is good, it seems that customers are enjoying. Better make reservation or you may not get a seat. We went late at night so quick some items were sold out. We ordered the jumbo size Ikura Don, the server and manager kept reminding that we had to finish all, it was the tradition that no... More

Restaurant has a lot of hidden cost - u pay Yen500 per person for a small appetizer which was not optional for you. You will not even be informed of that before. Grilled food like the hoke and squid taste plastiky. Really very expensive for a subnormal dining experience. A bowl of ramen elsewhere should have given you a more... More

If I could have eaten here every night I would have. It is small, smokey, crowded and next to impossible to reserve a table without the help of a native Japanese speaker, but all this adds to the charm of the place. Never experienced any of the rudeness or unpleasantness others complain about. When we went the first time we... More

We went to the downstairs location and it was fully booked. They told us to try upstairs, it's the same restaurant, but you have to go outside and go to the 2nd floor. The hostess on the 2nd floor was nice enough to squeeze us in for an one hour slot. The place was packed with locals and a bit... More

I'm not sure what one reviewer meant when they were turned away rudely without a seat as this place is packed every night and even if they're 'not busy' yet they get busy real fast with people who have already reserved. Knowing this I had Visa concierge book me a table months in advance because I did not want to... More

This restaurant is excellent! The ikura don is delicious and excellent value; I would recommend this to any visitor in Sapporo. The staff are friendly and the previous reviews saying they don't like foreigners aren't true - I didn't feel this at all - quite the opposite. Must do!

I guess they don't like gaijin or something. We went and asked for a place two people and he basically told us to go away. It was early and they were not busy. Only been treated like this one other time in all our trips to Japan. Unless you have Japanese friends to take you or are Asian and speak... More

I love izakayas, especially those frequented by locals and where part of the fun is figuring out what's going on. We didn't have to do so much of that when we visited Hachikyo because we went with two lovely Japanese ladies as our guides. The great thing is that it was their first time there too, and we all ended... More

This place was recommended by local friends and it certainly did not disappoint. It was great service by passionate people, authentic food with freshness that you will not have in Spore. best was the atmosphere when they brought about the highlight... Ikura Don. Ikura is not sticky when it's fresh! Certainly not to be missed.
