I opted for the 5 courses menu and I discovered new taste of Japanese cuisine. At the beginning I had small different types of japanesse aperitifs. For the main course I had a wonderful egg plant accompanied by two types of sauce that gave a fresh taste to it. The second main course: a perfectly cooked fish that had a... More

In the Gion area of Kyoto city in a narrow and quiet street, in the geisha area, you can enjoy a great experience in this typical restaurant where they serve high-level Japan cuisine. Very good indeed and the chef is supposed to be quite famous. We were almost the only guests on that quiet night, we sat (without shoes of... More

We were recommended by our hotel staff. We were not disappointed. I chose 4000 Yen set menu and my teenager son got 6000 Yen one. Ingredients are fresh and every dish is so beautifully presented and tasted wonderfully. Highly recommended if you are in Gion area.

Visited the restaurant with our two children (who are used to restaurants...) and enjoyed a fantastic set of tasts and dishes. Nice taste tweaks and fantastic to try some tastes a bit away from traditional western gourmet. Fantastic service. Would recommend this place to everybody who like trying new tasts in nice surroundings.

Aunbo presents the perfect setting to let high quality Japanese cuisine speak for itself. The restaurant looks lovely with a counter overlooking a small garden. The place is lively but not overly noisy. The absence of annoying background music is a definite plus. The chef and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food looks great and tastes... More

We had the 8 course dinner with appetizers and soup. The food was beautiful - not just the flavor and the technique but the visual presentation too. The staff were attentive and friendly. The setting is another huge reason to eat here: you sit at a low counter facing a beautiful picture window with their garden behind the chef as... More

The multi-course kaiseki dinner was amazing, we opted for the Chef Tashima Hiroshi's recommendation of the set 9 courses of small dishes with soup (rather than the traditional 3 course and soup). Our taxi dropped us exactly at the spot, there's a small lantern with "Aunbo" on one side and "あうんぼ" on the other. We entered the garden area towards... More

From Yoshimizu Ryokan Kyoto, I walked out of Maruyama Koen and headed east to the fancy area near Kodaiji. Here I found a Kaiseiki dinner restaurant called Aunbo. The name came from the “A” and “Un” statues usually situated at the entrance of a Buddhist temple. Passed the sliding door, I entered the beautiful Japanese garden. My getta made nice... More

Wonderful restaurant, great chef. We ate here twice in four days and could have gone back more times if we didn't feel guilty about going to the same place over and over.
