Ragazzi, non scherziamo. Questo posto è bello, simpatico e soprattutto la cucina è molto buona. Siamo soddisfattissimi e per non dar luogo a equivoci vi elenchiamo le portate scelte: scallops and cheese toast, seafood Korean style pancake, Nama-fu pizza with miso and cheese, roasted duck, Udon with chili sauce prawn, deep fried fish balls containing red pepper, Ikameshi boiled squid... Be adventorous and have the omakase menu at 5,000 Yen. It is very good value for money and a true culinary experience. The parents had the omakase and the kids a la carte and we all had a wonderful evening. The kids simply loved their Korean pancakes, the veggie tempura and the grilled chicken. Our menu included grilled aiyu, sashimi,... More

My husband and I ate there twice, once with the "makase" at ¥3500 and once at ¥5000. What a feast both times! Way more than we could eat even though we both tried since it was delicious. Service was prompt and friendly both times. Unusual takes on familiar foods with well thought out balance and complementary flavors. English menu exists... More

We were in Kyoto for 6 days & Bamboo did become our "local". Our hotel was close by & after eating at Bamboo once we decided we did not need to try to find anywhere else as it did take us the week to get through the menu. The service may be a bit slow at times but the food... More

We went twice during our weeks stay in Kyoto and each time it was lovely. A nice relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. Give the Chef a price and you get multiple exquisite courses and each time the Waitress points out to you the ingredients illustrated in a Japanese food book in English. We were lucky that it was just around the... More

A quite nice bar/restaurant that serves excellent Japanese food. My wife and I were here twice and all that we had was delicious--but I'd especially recommend the octopus stuffed with rice.

The staff was so accommodating of American foodies. They had a detailed English menu but we opted for the "chef's selection" which came at 2 price points. We chose the lower end 3500 yen per person and it was an elegant FEAST. We couldn't even finish the 6th course but did manage to eat the 7th - a tiny scoop... More

First night in Kyoto on this trip and was looking for somewhere local and easy to find. Read a few recommendations, though mixed reviews on TripAdvisor so thought it was worth a try. Actually, much better than some reviewers had suggested in our experience. It was very busy but they found us a table and we settled in for the... More

The food is nice, but nog great. The service was pathetic. We waited almost an hour, and only received half of our food. And the food is rather expensive.

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
