It's a small informal, humble place. Good things come in small packages. Menu regularly changes but it's a little limited. Owner friendly and took time and effort to explain the menu. Quick service. Strong espresso coffee. Organic beverages. Delicious nutritious food. One can tell these people put effort and love into the preparation of their food. Call ahead to make... More

Visited here for lunch once. Open for lunch during day time everyday and Friday-Sun for dinner. Owner speaks english and was helpful. Lunch was about 100-130 Yen more expensive than other places but still quite cheap and affordable. Limited lunch options. I had the Japanese lunch set with miso soup (vegan and organic no fish)+tea. Costed 1000 Yen. Delicious and... More

we went there for lunch and had a really healthy and delicious cold noodle salad along with a side dish and beautiful tempeh with peanutbuttersauce. The woman who is preparing the food in front of you knows plenty of other nice places to dine out and buy (organic) food and veg!

The food was very tasty and a good price (1000 yen for lunch). At lunch there is the option to have a plate with samples of all the other dishes which was lovely! There is no English menu, but the staff were able to explain what the dishes were on English. It is a bit out of the way, but... More

This place is very good for those who want to try some vegetarian food. The food is great, and diverse, it comes with rice or pasta and all the veggies are fresh and delicios. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, you sit at the counter (it's a very small place, for max 8-10 people). We paid 1,000 yen/person and it... More

This place has been in business for 10+ years, although not in the same location. Everything on the menu is good. The food is seasonal, prepared fresh, and mostly local. The current formation is a long counter. Set meals include your choice of 3 side dishes, which are the highlight of the meal in my opinion. Take out is possible.

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
