They are amongst the most expensive tempura restaurants in Kyoto and require reservations, however, they have open counter space for walk in customers and serve meals at very reasonable price. Staff understood at least basic English. They only offer 2 types of course menu (3000...More

We had an excellent tempura meal at the counter and loved watching the chef prepare our meal right in front of us. My partner and I are vegetarian. We contacted the restaurant ahead of time, and they agreed to make us a vegetarian tasting. The...More

After arriving in Kyoto the previous night we went to lunch here. I had read recommendations and was concerned about not having a booking. Lunch opened at 11am and we arrived at about 12pm and had to wait. They had 3 seats available but we...More

The food is not the problem. Excellent tempura, sashimi, etc. At a price of course. Perhaps it was our mistake for sitting at the counter. Loud realtors from LA on the left. British couple on our right. Everybody very engaged in conversation and not paying...More

When in Tokyo you definitely can't miss one night at a Ryokan (traditional hotel) We were recommended this one, very well known for its service and the best tempura in town. It's a very expensive experience but worth it! When you enter the Ryokan after...More

We stayed for two nights and absolutely loved Yoshikawa. It's centrally located but feels a world away from everything outside. The service was impeccable, the food was plentiful and delicious, and the setting - with the tatami rooms, central garden and traditional rituals - was...More

We dined as a family of 4 and the restaurant was very accommodating of our needs (one pescatarian, one gluten free, one with food allergies). We were seated in a private room and were waited on by a number of kimono clad waitresses. The service...More

We had one of the course meals at the bar section here, which was a unique experience. We got to watch the chef doing his craft. The food was great - we got to sample a large variety of tempura dishes. We were told that...More

Highly recommend this restaurant! My boyfriend and I read up about this place in the lonely planet guide and had to book it a day in advance for dinner. It was everything I hoped it would be. We had the larger set menu which was...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered

is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and

We were only 2, we were seated directly. But it's a very small restaurant, so I'd book if I were you, just to be sure.
