Great restaurant - the food was delicious, both for myself (I am a vegan) and my boyfriend (who is not, but still thought it was among some of the tastiest food he ate in Japan). Also very pleasant and friendly atmosphere - we got the impression that it is popular with locals.

Our worst meal in Japan. The place is nice but the food (at least what we ordered) was mediocre comparing to similar food we have had elsewhere in Kyoto. We both had set menus (2,100 yen and 2,700 yen respectively). The only tasty item from the set was the soba noodle (which you can order on its own as a... More

Cold soba noodle set included a nice grilled eggplant. Service was a bit slow. 11000 JPY for 6 people. Menu is all vegetarian.

Visitors to Kurama can't go wrong here. The wait staff is warm and cheerful, there's an English menu, and the food is unusual, hearty, and delicious. This is vegan food with a long history, and it features uniquely Japanese vegetables that appeal to all tastes. Just a great experience.

Location : On the right of the entrance steps, just below ticket gate entrance for Kiyomizu-dera temple grounds . 5 minute walk from Kurama station . Menu & ambiance: rustic , wooden tables and chairs, has an English menu. Excellent multi course vegan shojin ryori multi course meals, or a cheaper option : soba topped with mountain vegetables. This restaurant... More

This restaurant is appointed as a service restaurant by Kursmadera Temple, so that I expected mind of Omotenashi in addition to technique of vegetarian foods. But dishes were equal to be found at any Shojin Ryori restaurant, no characteristics. Attitude of a service lady was in routine without welcome, say 'you can change normal rice to mixed rice by 300... More
