Waited 90mins before getting a seat. Had the cold udon with fried chicken and it was the best udon I ever have. Fried chicken breast is tender and juicy, goes nicely with the noodles.

It took me an hour and a half to wait at the long queue in the rain and cold outside! Looking around me, I could only see young people. I was the most senior patron! I told myself I would never ever came back here...More

2.5 stars, I'm rounding up. I'm more upset with the people hyping this place up than the food there. Is it different? Yes. Is it better than any other everyday udon place in Japan? No. I can see rating this well on yelp for locals,...More

Fantastic soup stock... Great hand made noodle. Went on a weekday afternoon about 3 plus. Had to queue for 30 min. Totally worth the wait! Very unique tasting broths. Love the fresh and chewy texture of the udon. Staff was very attentive and sincere. Loved...More

I've been to a lot of te-uchi (handmade) udon shops, and I think this is the best one I've been to in Kyoto. I went out of curiosity after seeing Mr. Yamamoto on an Iron Chef episode, and it was neat to see him in...More

2 hour wait to sit for SOUP! I don't care how good it is NOT WORTH IT! Stood outside forever to be seated.

Very efficient system, you order as soon as you walk in. No real wait for us, as others have noted. Noodles were fresh, broth was amazingly tasty. I had the burdock tempura -- very tasty root vegetable. Would recommend the spicy broth - much tastier....More

After having tried the neighboring restaurant during our previous trip to Kyoto and being blown away by the udon, we were curious as to how the udon here would compare, given that the queue for Menzo was much longer. The texture of the udon itself...More

I earmarked this place and the restaurant beside it. When I reached, my instinct told me to queue for Yamamoto Menzou (the correct name by the way and also, Yamamoto had a longer queue than the other one!). A bit of history: The owner trained...More

What a wonderful lunch! After waiting in line for 30 Minutes we were seated at the counter. We had the Udon with Vegetable Tempura and Chicken Tempura. The dashi was fragrant with a depth of taste. Not too salty, not too fishy. The tempura was...More

No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered

bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
