We ordered the Houjicha and Green Tea Parfaits. A big glass stuffed with soft cream, mochi cake, jelly, read beans etc. The soft cream is so silky, the cake is soft, jelly is smooth and the read bean is sweet. Perfect combination..... I can eat 2 parfaits easily. The cold soba is fantastic too. The texture is just right and... More

Located on the 2nd floor of kyoto station building in Suvaco mall opposite JR west exit I didn't have a meal at the restaurant upstairs but I bought takeaway soft cream on the 1st floor parlor. 340 yen only! With red bean jam (azuki) and shiratama. This is the best matcha soft cream I've tried to date. Highly recommend for... More

I am Japanese sweets mania, and I hereby introduce my absolute no1 favorite, Maruto parfait Houjicha (roasted Japanese tea) flavor. Hope they will open one in Tokyo near future.

The only difference is that it doesn’t have the charm of the main store and the shop selling green tea related goods is smaller. But if you are pressed for time and don’t want to make the 17 min train journey to Uji ( where the main store is located) then this is a good option. Tried looking for this... More

If you can find it (upstairs near West gate) this place is definitely worth a visit. Reasonably priced considering. Green tea everything under the sun. Even the green tea cake was yum. English menu and staff speak good English also.

The green tea dessert, with green tea ice-cream, green tea jelly, mochi and red bean paste, is simply divine! I can eat this over and over again! Love it!

The restaurant is located inside the Kyoto station. Very convenient location. I ordered a green tea cold soba noodle set and a green tea jelly parfait with black honey. Both were good. The parfait did not taste sugary but it was expensive for a dessert(over 1000 yen). Very popular shop. May need to wait in time.

This place is within the Kyoto station complex, hence its generally crowded. We had to wait for almost half hour to order our matcha flavoured miso and gelato dessert. The best part is that the flavours, though quite alien for an outsider, is just correct to appreciate the taste.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
