4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2017 via mobile

This place sells millet mochi wrapped in sweetened red bean or sweetened soybean flour. You can dine in or takeaway. To takeaway you need to buy a minimum of 5 from memory. We bought a box of 10 (about just over ¥1000) and you can choose how many of each you want. Their snack is not too sweet and we... More

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2016

Sawaya sells very unique and tasty pound millet cake, wrapped with sweet bean jam and soybean flour. You can eat the cake in the shop. To go is also available. It is recommended to eat the cake before the day is over, since it becomes hard soon. I've visited almost all prefectures in Japan and found this is one of... More

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2016 via mobile

Delicious Japanese desert made by an elder couple, really excellent. Tea is not refillable so not a place to stay long, but price is comparably cheap in Kyoto. Worth to visit if wanna take a short break nearby.

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighbourhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.
