The cafe is situated in the hills off road so you really have to carefully plan your trip to avoid so much detours. It's a perfect spot to sit back, relax and wait for the sunset. Although they close at 6 pm, last order is at 5 pm for food! Leave plenty of time to search the place. The surrounding... More

I`ve been in Moan today and I immediately felt in love with the place. It remind to me a bit of Bali and a bit of Okinawa atmosphere. Really nice place to have a break, drink a coffe and read a good book.

I have been going to Moan for years and it is one of my favorite cafes in Kyoto. It's nestled at the top of Yoshida hill, with beautiful views of Kyoto city, and surrounded by lush green forest. At the height of summer it is one of the most wonderful places to be as they open all the windows in... More

Atmosphere is great, you can see Daimonji Mountain from it and on the other side a part of Kyoto city. Zen garden around the café. All is in wood under a beautiful roof. Only bad point is that it's a bit expensive what we can understand because of the place of course, and it's only open between 11 and 17... More

There will be a free sketch copy of the mountain view in that cafe, don't forget to take one for yourself. It will be a wonderful souvenir when you back to the office. It now sticks on my wall in my office.

It's a small old house made in wood and located on the top of the hill. You may need 15-20 minutes to get there from the main entrance (there are a least three small trails leading to Moan). The food and drink is both good and the view is good too. Photography is not allowed in the house.

Yummy food and cheap! The mocha and ice cream are really tasty. You can't go there in summer because it's too hot. The building looks cool either!

It can be my most favorite cafe in Kyoto. Placed on top of Yoshida Shrine, a tea house among the forest with an awesome view down the city. I have come back here many times on weekends since it's a good place for reading books and feeling the nature. The way is quite tricky to some people, since you have... More

The way to go there is not easy to be found, but it is a pleasure to pass by the several Jinja and to walk through the grove before arriving to the top of the mountain where this peaceful café is located. The interior is in a modern japanese style and the view on the city from there is fantastic.... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
