I've eaten here many times in Kyoto and it serves the best Korean Barbecue (Yaki niku) I have had here. The beef quality is good although not inexpensive. The restaurant's location is superb, right on the Kamogawa River between 4th and 5th avenues (Shijo, Gojo). If you want exceptionally tender and delicious beef, order the Kalbi. The super loin is... We called in for lunch today without a reservation (on a Saturday) and were seated immediately. The beef was divine; mouthwateringly good. The service was excellent and the price really good value for such a great experience, we will definitely go back - I can't wait!

We had been eyeing this restaurant but had not made a reservation for dinner. My grandson and I were told we had to wait for half an hour but after ten minutes in a nice waiting room, we were told that we had seats at the counter. The restaurant is fairly big, with a pleasant ambience. It was celebrating its... More

We travelled with a group of friends and we all have young kids, so the concierge suggested to go to Tendan in Gion. It was very busy in town due to the Festival, but we were able to secure a booking in a private room. And it was great! All the Wagyu was so good, especially the Chateaubriand!! I'm not... More

This restaurant is one the best grilled meat restaurant we have tried in Kyoto and was recommended by our local host to come here if we want some good quality meat. They have a good selection of beef for the grill, and some popular korean dishes too if you don't like grilled beef. This restaurant is popular for the special... More

Our first visit to Japan and we love this Korean/Japanese style of cuisine! The beef was mouthwatering (we promptly ordered two more servings after the first!) and we loved the Korean additions throughout the menu (menu translated to English available).Really pleasant staff, very clean and welcoming ambience. Great seating arrangements (we are a couple and had a position by the... More

One of the best restaurant in Kyoto in term of cleanliness and the food quality. Need an advance reservation as it can be crowed. Try to avoid on the weekend as it was always fully booked. Although the food is a bit expensive, these is the best BBQ Restaurant I've ever been in Japan. I will definitely return.

Staying in Gion

Neighbourhood Profile
Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
