Great variety on salad bar. Chicken fried steak was ok. My husband enjoyed the salad bar and soup. We enjoyed the variety on the salad bar.

I've eaten here several times over the years & the food is OK, but the restaurant on a whole is dark & dingy. I don't like to be in such a dark place that I can't see if it is clean or not. The food was OK, nothing I would jump up & down about. The prices are OK, but... More

Hi Weazy, I hope you come try us again soon. We have been cleaning and painting and refreshing many parts of the restaurant. It's not a whole lot brighter, but we did lighten a couple places on paint and made sure we have all new lightbulbs in many areas. Plus we added new tile floors. We will soon be adding... More

Another reviewer said this place reminded him of the old Steak & Ale. I totally agree. But it took me back to a time when going out to eat was a big thing with the entire family. This place also had old-time service and respect for their customers. You don't find that very often these days. Food selection was broad,... More

We have friends in Abilene, and during our occasional visits there, we like to eat at the Towne Crier. The food is good, with a lot of variety. And we really enjoy the soup and salad bar. Service is very good. Will stop in again next time we are in Abilene!

The new owner is there to great you as you go to your able. She is very friendly and is genuinely glad to see you. The menu board has got a new coat of paint and the listed menu items are easy to see and read. The menu continue the tradition of a great selection of various meats at a... More

Amazingly good steaks. They have fish, and it is very good, but you waste your time going to this place for anything but a steak. OK, I have eaten the fist more than once, but when you can't find a steak at Golden Corral, come to the Towne Crier Steakhouse. The fresh hot (and I mean HOT) rolls delivered to... More

Thanks for the nice review! We have been repairing and fixing up the old order board so people can enjoy it for many years to come. We do want people to try the chicken fried chicken and other things though too :) More

We ate here at lunch. We both had the Chicken Fried steak and it was pretty good. Good salad bar, but the best was the yeast Rolls. Great!

This restaurant seems to have a good local following, but I am not sure why. No complaints on the staff but the décor, menu, etc. has not changed much over the many years and I consider the food below average.

This reasonably priced steakhouse has been in Abilene for many years. It is always busy, and the soup and salad bar is very good and the entrees are okay. The tables always feel greasy, and I wish it were cleaner. Having said that, however, I have eaten there many times over the years when visiting in Abilene.

This steakhouse was one of the strangest I have ever been in. The salad bar was stocked full of delicious fare, and the soups looked good too. Entering into the restaurant, you order at a counter, then wait for your food to be brought to you. No one really knows who your server is, they all kind of take care... More

Thanks for your review Miranda.... we are kind of odd indeed! I think it just happens naturally when you have been open 50 years. We do plan on changing to a more modern system of having your server wait on you at the table in the coming months. Come see us! More
