You have to go here to see where all the movers and shakers of old Austin drank. The bar is very impressive with it's size and history. The building is amazing. But, if you order the food, expect it to taste like the floors.

Oldest establishment in Austin, but so is the food. The fries tasted like they were made a week ago. Stay clear of the German food, it tastes terrible and is way overpriced.

Stopped for lunch after walking around the campus and visiting the Bullock State Historical museum. Friendly staff. BBQ sandwich was good with a good beer selection. Be sure to stop when in Austin.

We stopped here for beer, pretzels and dessert, and were not disappointed. The pretzels and accompanying dipping sauces were out of this world, and we ordered another as soon as we finished the first one. Great selection of draft beer, and pies can come ala mode with Mexican vanilla ice cream. Will definitely be back when we go back to... More

In operation since 1866, it's the place to see and be seen in downtown Austin, particularly after a UT home game or when the legislature is in session. The food and beer are authentic, and the biergarten out back is a great place to relax. It's a busy place, and the service is brisk and professional. Don't expect anyone to... More

A favorite Longhorns place since 1866, right near Darrel Royal Stadium. Authentic real deal bar/dining/biergarten. We were happy to be there on a Saturday when there was an away football game, so the place was packed with Longhorn fans during the game, which made it a lot of fun....full of Longhorn Ts, jerseys, etc, and when Texas scored, they did... This restaurant and beer garden has been around along time and has a long tradition. If youre visiting the city for the first time, i highly recommend stopping here. They have a lot of german sausages and food to pick from, my favorite is the knockwurst, and a lot of traditional american sandwiches. Great for groups.

Locals, state legislators, UT Alumni and current students/faculty/staff spend time eating and drinking at Scholz Garten. Great outdoor patio/garten with good local music on scheduled data. Good beer and a good mix of Texas favorites ranging from Chicken Fried Steak to Tex Mex. you can even have a soft pretzel with sauces. Well work a Vidit to see the bar,... More
