Went there for a drink during happy hours. The sign said that they served a food buffe for free during happy hours. The buffe was almost empty, just some sad left-overs. The drink, one of their signature Margaritas, was the worse ever - Tequila (don't know the brand) with a splash of lime, that's it! To top this of, cockroaches... More

We stopped for lunch on a Saturday. I had the chicken burrito and my husband the breakfast burrito. Both were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place.

Almost as if you stepped into a restaurant in Mexico! It is an old established place with very good food.

Fantastic - as long as you buy a drink there is a buffet that is complimentary - the food is delicious

Been here a couple of times when visiting Austin. Casual place with mid-range quality food. Not fancy or high-end by any stretch of the imagination but the service and food is reliable and is a good value.

This is an above average Mexican Food restaurant. The service is quick, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere sets this place apart and there is lots of seating for couples, friends and large groups. The taco plate, enchilada plate and combination plates are a step above most other places in Austin. Salsa and chips are tasty and are a good appetizer... More

They say location is key in any business, and that could be true to some extent here. Near the capital and right across from a hotel would be a saving grace. The staff is friendly, but the overall interior needs an update. It's got the shell of a winning urban restaurant, but needs some tlc. I didn't try the food,... More

First, I'll start with the positives. This restaurant was just across the street from the Hampton Inn and served until 10 p.m. so it was convenient. The staff was genuinely friendly & provided excellent service. Although the salsa was a bit odd, the tortilla chips were some of the best I've ever tasted. Warm, nice fresh corn taste, neither greasy,... More

came here for lunch. service is excellent. salsa they put on the table is fantastic. i had achiote chicken tacos, very good. the beans are fantastic. i wish the chips were real fried tortillas and not something mass-produced, but that is my only negative comment about this joint.

Our family ate at El Mercado two nights as we were staying across the road and the weather was freezing. The motto is "World peace through Tex Mex" and the decor is quirky. As soon as you sit down you're given huge bowls of corn chips and salsa that just keep coming. Maybe because we're Australian we found the portions... More
