We discovered The Peppermill while walking Abingdon's historic district during the Christmas holidays. Though right on Main Street, it sits back a little and we didn't realize it was a restaurant at 1st, but enjoyed the architecture inside and out on this attractive 100 yr...+ building that at one time was someone's private residence. There is a large foyer and staircase as you enter with a small bar to the right. Though crowded downstairs, we had one of the dining rooms upstairs almost to our selves. They have a little bit of an eclectic menu and we both ended up with their chicken salad specials, I the sandwich and my wife the combo, for $10. The chicken salad was on whole wheat and had pineapple in the mix that gave it a nice interesting taste. My French fries were as good as any French fries I have ever had, crispy, hot, the perfect amount of salt and with some of the skin on. My wife liked hers on the bed of salad greens and had the potato bacon soup. The sweet tea was excellent, as well as our waitress, Rebecca. It was the perfect holiday lunch and it was only a 2 block walk from the Martha Washington Inn where we staying.More
