We discovered The Peppermill while walking Abingdon's historic district during the Christmas holidays. Though right on Main Street, it sits back a little and we didn't realize it was a restaurant at 1st, but enjoyed the architecture inside and out on this attractive 100 yr...+ building that at one time was someone's private residence. There is a large foyer and staircase as you enter with a small bar to the right. Though crowded downstairs, we had one of the dining rooms upstairs almost to our selves. They have a little bit of an eclectic menu and we both ended up with their chicken salad specials, I the sandwich and my wife the combo, for $10. The chicken salad was on whole wheat and had pineapple in the mix that gave it a nice interesting taste. My French fries were as good as any French fries I have ever had, crispy, hot, the perfect amount of salt and with some of the skin on. My wife liked hers on the bed of salad greens and had the potato bacon soup. The sweet tea was excellent, as well as our waitress, Rebecca. It was the perfect holiday lunch and it was only a 2 block walk from the Martha Washington Inn where we staying.More

I would have gone 3.5 if I could have........ But we were dining during Covid...... We arrived with no reservations ( family of 3 ) and they said they could have a table in a few minutes and they did... All in all it was...a good meal but from what I have been told to expect from the Pepermill, it was a letdown. But my wife and daughter both would give it a 4 or 4.5...... My problems, service was very slow, drinks went unfilled and my pork loin dinner could have come from any diner.. My wife and daughter both had a different pasta dishes and were very happy with their mealsMore

Come early if you want to sit on the lovely porch. We arrived at 5:30 and got the last 2 top on the porch, which set the mood for the gourmet experience to follow. I had the Ravioli Balsamique accompanied with Curried Mushroom with Orange...Marmalade soup. Tastebud explosion! My wife had the Salmon Veracruz with a side Caesar Salad. Both were excellent. Drinks were Pear Martini, CF Red Wine, Devils Backbone lager. Dessert was a light Lemon Cake. Delicious. Unique menu and great venue of an old house with deep front porch. Highly attentive staff.More

Attentive, friendly and efficient service. Nice setting in old house on Main Street. Not far from the Martha Washington Inn and downtown antique shops. Nice menu, wine and great desserts. Will definitely go back.

My wife and I had lunch at the Peppermill both going to and coming from Hendersonville, NC recently because this is a perfect nearly half-way lunch stop and we know we'll get a good meal. We were pleased to see good coronavirus protocols in place...too. We had our lunches on the broad wrap-around porch with good social distancing on both visits.Even during this hot summer, the porch, shaded by a huge deciduous tree, was very comfortable. On the way south I had their chicken tenders with fries - big portion for $10. On the way north, I tried a shrimp pasta dish that was fabulous. I could've eaten more but the portion was appropriate. My wife had their soup and salad combo both ways, her choice going was the marmalade mushroom and returning, the French onion soup and she said both were delicious. Going south had also had a cup of mushroom, always special. We shall return.More

We shopped here during COVID-19 because it had outdoor seating. It was our first time eating out since the pandemic began, but we enjoyed it! The restaurant is a bit unique and the food was good!! Plus, they have a lawn in front of the...restaurant where our 2 year old was able to run around while we waited on the food.More

We happened upon this place and I am so glad we did! We got in before the dinner crowd and got a special for 2. This was a 4 course option and well worth the cost! The food was very good.

Friendly service. Wonderful soups and yummy sandwiches. We loved the potato soup and mushroom soup. The Thai chicken appetizer was also good. Would definitely visit again.

Visited the Peppermill on the Saturday after Valentines with a 6:30 reservation. We were there in time and were seated immediately. Ordered drinks and the lettuce wrap appetizer. We had tickets for an 8:00 show at the Barter which we told them when we ordered....Three other couples were seated around us in the meantime. The lettuce wraps arrived after 30min (a little long for lettuce wraps) and were delicious. At 7:30 we asked about our entree’s and told they were backed up. At 8:00 they still had not come out and we had to cancel the order because of the show. The three other couples who arrived after us all ate and were leaving. I am not sure why our order was messed up, but it was. The manager apologized and did not charge us for the drinks and appetizer which was the right thing to do. But our dinner did not go well that night.More
