The view from the restaurant is amazing, the owners are nice and the food was good, but its ridiculously expensive. Its the most expensive restaurant I've eaten in Bolivia, felt like a robbery. So I recommend to just have a beer there and enjoy the...scenery but go somewhere else to eat.More

We ate here last night and it was one of my favourite evenings on our 7 month trip in SA. The owner/chef was so friendly and welcoming and the food was really delicious! The candles add to the atmosphere and we had fun playing games...while we waited for our food. I would recommend eating here rather than all the same-same touristy restaurants in the town. Take a torch though, it’s dark on the way home!More

We pre ordered our food as told by our tour guide. We went on a walk for an hour and when we came back to the hotel we expected our food to be ready. The restaurant was cosy and warm however there was no electricity...and there was no Wi-Fi. However in the kitchen we could see the lights were on and therefore there was electricity and there was a guy on his laptop so there was Wi-Fi. Our food took over two hours to arrive even though we had pre-ordered. When the food had arrived they gave us the bread and we had to ask for drinks as well. There was only one man making the food but this just took too long and we lost our appetite. The chef was a really nice person and thanked us for coming however it took us ages to eat and the food was mediocre. I ordered Green spinach noodles and they were a bit bland.More

This was probably my favourite ever date! Candlelit dinner watching a thunderstorm over the lake, lovely wine and great food. The host was so kind and patient with our terrible Spanish! He made all of the food himself from scratch as well as serving, so...there was a wait. This only added to the experience though as we were just able to sit, chat and enjoy the atmosphere. More restaurants should be like this! I definitely recommend a visit if you’re staying on the island. Thank you for making my husband’s birthday special!More

The night before we ate at Las Velas we had dinner at Gustu in La Paz. Gustu was started by one of the co-founders of Nomo in Copenhagen, a 3 star Michelin restaurant in Copenhagen. My wife and I had the local trout from Lake...Titicaca in both restaurants and the trout dish at Las Velas was way, way better - the best fish entree I have ever had. Las Velas is in a forest, on a ridge overlooking the lake. I don't think they have electricity - dinners are by candlelight. We had lunch after a 30 minute hike next to the restaurant far above Titicaca. The owner told us it would take a while to prepare the meal. The setting is spectacular and the restaurant is so simple. What an experience!More

My friend and I went for dinner at Las Velas having read the fabulous reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. After a hike around the island, we arrived at Las Velas in time to place our order and watch the sunset with...a glass of wine while the food was prepared. Everything is cooked from scratch so be prepared for a wait, but it’s absolutely worth it. The food was delicious and amazingly it was all prepared, cooked and served by one man catering for a restaurant of around 15 customers all with different orders. Great experience and great food, I would definitely recommend a visit here. Be sure to take a torch to find your way back to your hotel in the dark though!More

Incredible place to have dinner. We were fortunate enough to experience 2 beautiful dinners here. Pablo and Lydia do a fantastic job running a busy restaurant without electricity. As a result the meals can take a while. After reading the reviews we arrived at the...restaurant at 5pm and didn’t eat until about 6.30. However the meals are 100% worth the wait. The lasagne was incredible and the wild trout is the best fish dish I have ever eaten. Waiting for the food goes by quick while you’re watching a beautiful sunset and playing games of Jenga, UNO, or Yathzee, which is all provided. If you are spending the night on Isla del sol, do yourself a favour and eat here.More

We were recommended this place by fellow travellers and were not disappointed. There's only one man running the show here so expect a bit of a wait for your dinner but we were not in a hurry so that was fine for us. My husband...had the trout which he enjoyed and I had a vegetarian pizza which was also nice. Unfortunately it was very cloudy so we couldn't really see the sunset but on a clear night the views would have been ever more beautiful.More

Just had a fantastic meal of trout cooked in wine with onion and tomato, fresh vegetables, quinoa, and biscuits. A 5-star candlelight meal in a rustic setting. Patience is required for the restaurant to open and to be served, but it was well worth the...wait. Then there's the walk back to the village through the forest in the dark. Since leaving prison 6 months ago I have had difficulty coming to terms with food on the outside world. It is simply too nice. After eating prison food for most of my adult life I am used to eating nothing less than dreadful slop which...has no taste and little or no nutritional value. Nowadays I struggle with the complexities of flavour. My body cannot handle vitamins, nutrients or anything healthy. A very dear friend is aware of my problem and took me to Las Velas. He said I would receive food just like I used to get in prison and he was correct. The food is truly awful and that is just the way I like it. To almost every other law abiding person this excuse of a restaurant would be considered disgracefully vile, but not this old lag. I ruddy well love it !More

We walked up the hill and through the forest to find a beautiful view of the bay and rest of the island! We we’re greeted by a lovely gentleman host and enjoyed beers watching the sunset. Food takes 1.5-2 hours here due to the lack...of power but we loved the fresh steamed lake trout and veg/quinoa which was probably the best fish I’ve tasted! All over candlelight. Worth the wait!More
