Following the footsteps of Anthony Bourdain to Sao Paulo, we traveled to Bar Do Mane and of course we ordered their famous Mortadella sandwich. Bar Do Mane is a simple lunch counter situated in the midst of the city's bustling Mercado Municipal. Thin pieces of freshly sliced, porky Mortadella are draped into mounds that are slapped on to a griddle... More

Obviously if you're coming here, you are having the famous Mortadella sandwich. I shared a hot mortadella with cheese with my girlfriend and it was more than enough for two people. I can't say it was the best sandwich I've ever had, but it was salty and cheesy goodness. I'd recommend a beer to wash it all down and try... More

In our 3 days in Sao Paulo we went back here twice it was so amazing. The large mortadella sandwich is definitely enough to share between two with a pastel on the side. We had a mortadella/cheese pastel too which was delicious. The staff were so friendly and kind - they gave our baby a free plain bread roll which... More

Its located in the Mercadao, a market where they sell everything from meat, candy, souveniers and the mortadella sandwich. One of the many places where you can have a mortadella sandwich is Bar do Mane, It was full but the nice attendant at the bar found me a table and was very well served by a lady waiter. I ordered... I've been in Sao Paulo just a full day (layover) and decided to go the Mercado Municipal, just to try the "sanduiche de mortadela". It was an unforgettable experience!

Okay so I'm not even a ham eater and I thought the mortadella looked really disgusting. But I got over it and it was one of the best sandwiches of my life. Totally worth the hype. But A LOT of meat. My sister and I shared one and were both stuffed.

If you are visiting the Mercado, stop here, the sandwich is huge and delicious, the price is fair enough and less then the others on the balcony. You'll be better stay on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Excellent cod/bacalao rolls, bolhino de bacalao. Most people were eating the mortadella sandwiches but we don't eat meat. We ate here twice as it had good prices, next door was another similar bar but their prices were triple the price. We stood at the bar both times, eating, drinking and looking at the people. Best time for the market is... More

Had the ham and cheese, and my buddy had some pastrami looking thing. Both were delightful. The market was safe, but take a cab there and out. One block beyond the market and things get sketchy.

This place is a real tourist haunt, since this is where Tony Bourdain went when he took his original show to São Paulo when he was still a food commentator -- long before he jumped the shark and became the (not too well informed) social commentator on his much less interesting CNN show, where he has become the sort of... Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
To truly know São Paulo, you have to start at the old centre, full of history and landmarks with stories to tell. Get a taste of local food at the Municipal Market, and if you are brave enough, head to the crowded shopping street “25 de março” for cheap deals on a wide assortment of items. Beautiful buildings in this area include the Post Office Building, Luz Station, Pagé Gallery, Pateo do Colegio and the iconic “Viaduto do Chá”. If you find yourself amazed by the local language, the Museum of Portuguese Language is the place to go. Cultural centres, like Banco do Brasil’s, also offer a variety of entertainment options. Finally, if you fancy watching a Gregorian mass with organ music, stop by São Bento Monastery on a Sunday morning.
