Our Riad, Casa Sabila, as well as fellow travelers we met, recommended this place. It has recently moved and we were advised that someone would be at the original location to walk us to the new location. Unfortunately, the young teen who was guiding us went way too fast and we lost him in foot traffic. I convinced my friend to go back to the old location and try again. It was well worth it. We sat on the terrace under a full moon and had the best pastilla I've ever had. Also the white beans in a tomato based sauce, served in a sizzling clay saucer, were so delicious. Don't expect plush surroundings or super attentive servers but you can expect delicious Moroccan food at great prices. Dinner for two (way too much food, had to take some to go) was $13.00 including tip. Possibly the best meal in 2 1/2 weeks of travel throughout the country.

We ate here after a lovely morning walk around Chefchaouen.
Our guide said they had moved, so we walked to the old location and a nice young man led us to the newly renovated restaurant.
I ordered sardines in a lovely tomato based sauce, served in a sizzling clay dish, along with the bissara soup (fava bean), which was mild in flavor. Wonderful fresh bread, too. The special included fresh chanterelle mushrooms, but we can pick those at home, do didn’t order that dish.
There is a first-floor dining room but we were seated one floor up which had an open (exposed) wall, so fresh air drifted thoughout the room. There is also a rooftop deck but it was too hot to eat up there.
Staff was friendly and efficient in serving our group of ten. They don’t rush you, so it’s great for a leisurely lunch.

I stayed in Chefchaouen a full week and ate here 3 times, which should say enough right there, as I usually prefer variety. Found this place on accident my first night, and even though I wasn't that hungry I found the food delicious with plenty of vegetarian options, which is a nice bonus in Morocco. When I asked my hotel proprietor to recommend his fave Moroccan restaurant, he brought me here as well, saying even locals come here for a nice meal out of the house. I ate several vegetarian tagines, tried lentils, chickpeas, an eggplant dish, and of course the variety of dips that they serve with the bread. Watch out, the dip that they say is spicy is VERY spicy! The price is so reasonable that you can eat a huge, healthy meal here for about $5 US. I treated my friend to a feast on my last night in Chefchaouen, including lots of food and fresh juices, for about $11. I wish I could eat here every week now that I'm back home! It recently moved from the heart of the medina to a little closer to the new city but it's worth searching for, because the food was probably the best I had during my month in Morocco!

This restaurant was recommended by our driver as the place where he likes to eat, especially goat tagine & bissara (fava bean soup). The soup was very tasty: simple, hearty, somewhat like split pea soup. We had just eaten goat at another restaurant, so opted for the beef & veggie tagine. Again, very tasty &, I bet, traditional. All was very, very inexpensive, even by Moroccan standards. I gave the Beldi Bab Ssour four, not five, stars because I found the food a bit dull, but my partner (& our driver) disagreed! The location has recently moved; go to the old location, & a waiting young man will guide you to the new place, about a 7 minute walk. The new setting includes a comfortable, attractive and clean dining room, plus a roof deck. Staff are very nice and efficient. A very pleasant eating experience.

We had lunch here, the place was really quite dirty and smelly. I saw one of the waiters lick his fingers before picking up bread to give to customers.
The food was not bad and cheap but there are plenty of nicer places here. I actually felt like I needed a shower after eating here.
I can't understand all the 5 star reviews.

We ate here twice during our short stay in Chefchaouen. As others have said, the restaurant has recently moved so ask at your accommodation or contact them on monebasa@yahoo.com. It’s just inside the medina from near Hotel Madrid. We’ve been there twice but on directions only! It’s now in the upstairs of a home so look on the wall for a small sign. It’s a lovely clean and fresh environment. The servers are so friendly particularly the young man who served us both nights in his smart outfit and bow tie! Tonight we had an OJ, a vegetable dish and 2 tajines followed by 2 ‘house’ goat yoghurts for 150dh. It was all delicious, especially the goat tajine. Highly recommended.

Restaurant Bab Ssour is a local restaurant located in the Medina (old town) of. Chefchaouen, the blue town in the North of Morocco. I ate local dishes: a morocco salad and olives as first dish, a tagine of goat meat and plums as second dish, and te and Morocco sweets as dessert. Also, my daughter could eat sphagetti bolognesa with local species and she liked it very much.
Moreover, the staff was very friendly with us and my daughter, so it was a very good place to stay in the middle of the medina and taste local food.

Receptionist at hotel recommended & gave directions, however on arriving at location found it had moved. A guide was posted at old location & he showed us the way. We were a little disconcerted at first but on arrival found for sure we were in the right place. We ended up eating here 2 nights out of our 3 in Chefchaouen. The staff here were friendly, eager to please & quite entertaining especially Zachariah, an absolute gem! Menu is in a few languages & an explanation is given of anything you are unsure of, definitely applied to the private parts of the oxen! The Moroccan soup was delicious & at 5 dirhams such amazing value. We sampled various tagines including goat, calamari, kefta, mushroom, beef with "plumps" (prunes) & chicken with 🍋 & olives. Would recommend them all. Desserts also very good especially the yoghurt & the cream caramel.
On the 2nd night we met the owner Said who was charming & chatted to us about why he had moved to a new location & how the building had been completely renovated. He hopes to set up a new restaurant serving seafood, he is clearly passionate about his business & we wish him well in his new venture. The meals we ate here were excellent & such amazing value , the whole experience enhanced by the brilliant staff.

3.5 rating rounded up to "4". Service was very good but the food was not any better than most other Moroccan restaurants I have been to. The goat tagine was 90% bone so I left the restaurant hungry having to grab some food elsewhere. Not good.

They brought us bread to start. We had Courgettes Vertes for 15 dh, about $1.50 USD. This was some kind of zucchini puree that I would rate a 3. Then we had a meet dish with prunes (we didn't eat the prunes), not sure what it was called for 40 dh, about $4. We had a Coke Zero and a large bottle of water. Cost was 97dh with a 20dh tip included. Total of about $10.

The food was excellent. I was suprised how tasty the food was given that Chefchaouen is not known, among locals, for having great food options.
We went there during a week day, we were the only customers and the staff were so welcoming and we were treated with care. I can't recommand enough eating their entrees : you can ask them to give you a little bit of every thing and the portions are consistent. We were almost full on eating the entree alone.
We ordered also tajines and they were good as well.

I have lived and traveled around Morocco extensively for 5 years and this place has had some of my favourite food! The goat tagine and m'rozia were particular standouts although other dishes were very well done too. They also have an excellent hot sauce to accompany your food. Perhaps the only thing that can be disappointing is that some food items may not be available when you visit. That said, this is not too uncommon around Morocco, especially in lesser known restaurants.

One of our favourite restaurant in Morocco.
Beef Tajin 40DH has lots of beef and very good taste, Baisara 15DH (beans soup) is also really good.
Salad, olive and khobz (Moroccan bread) are all complimentary.
We spent 78DH include drinks and tip.
Staff are very kind to us whole time.
Completely satisfied with the TIME spending in this restaurant.
Hope will come back to this awesome restaurant.
Not to mention, if u are in Chefchaouen, Must visit.

We came today for lunch, the place is beautiful with a good atmosphere, the food as well, fresh bread and olives were served at the beginning as a complementary and our meals were teasty and nice presented. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the service. Our waiter was a bit rude at the beginning after I asked him few questions regarding the food, however, I appreciate that he tried to cover up by the end but at that point my experience was already compromised.

The menu is not distinguished, so if you are looking for something unlike the rest of the restaurants, look elsewhere. We had the white beans, lentils and chickpeas. They were all OK. But the best part was the appetizer — a plate with zaalouq, baqula and other traditional dishes.
