We stayed here for 2 weeks while we worked on a volunteer project. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was great especially the chef's special Sri Lankan dinners. The bar was somewhat limited at times, although the new menu was a good improvement.

It's one of the best places to watch the elephants from the orphanage bathing & enjoying themselves in the river. It has a lovely view along the restaurant. However, for exactly these 2 reasons & because there are lots of foreigners, the prices are sky high & the quality is nothing special.
If it was only that, it would've maybe still been ok, but then the service is also nothing special. They don't care about customer satisfaction, but they do care about the tip.
We ended up going here, because it started pouring cats & dogs while we were enjoying watching the elephants. But I won't go again.

Had to ask 3 times for a curry with no spice for the kids; and every time the small amount of chicken was so over cooked it was hardly worth the effort.
All round just a very dull experience in such a nice location.. could be so much better if they raised the standard.

Very good place to eat local and observe the "elephant shower" very closely. The food is very good and the service perfect, especially the welcome of Thilini, very smiling.

Good food with great services given by pinnalanda restaurant.
Very reasonable prices and good portions.
If you want to have an eye pleasing lunch with a view of elephants having a bath, this is the ideal place.
And the staff are very welcoming.
Thanks to a great service given by Thilini. Very attentive and prompt responses. Surely a place to visit again!

The view was beautiful, but the food and service were terrible. The waiter we asked to take the tip and return the rest, did not return the money at all and there were guests sitting at the next table who ordered coffee and after leaving a small tip the same waiter said they could left a go see the elephants down the street.

Brilliant - best place to sit and watch the elephants bathe whilst having a cool drink -i would even go there is there were no elephants - great food and drinks cold

Visited Pinnalanda Hotel with a Indian friend with his family along with mine. We had a great time at the hotel. Staff was very helpful. Buffet was a nice Asian & European mix . This is probably the best location at Pinnawala Elephant orphanage to watch Elephants bathing in the river while enjoying lunch with a cool beer. Very good value for money.

Curry rice twice for me involved four different curries each time. Fantastic. The table next to me were German. The kids liked their salad so much, they ordered more!
Nice spot too looking over pool and paddies. Drop in for a pot of tea on the way to the elephant orphanage.

English breakfast was excellent, we have order with sunny side up egg and scramble egg with 2 breakfast it was accompany with fresh juice, cut fruits, sausages and pork bacon, toast , butter , jam, marmalade , tea & coffee. Cutlery, crockery, glasses, table cloth, chair coves and the entire area was clean & tidy. What we most like is the view. comfortable baby chair. it was unforgettable breakfast.

this is the perfect lunch spot in pinnawala to have lunch and relax.just by the side of river one can see elephants enjoying in the river while having lunch.ambience is very good.food is tasty.indian food is available on demand.
