I wanted a place near the downtown legal center but not a chain. I stumbled upon the City Cafe. It seems to be the "go to" lunch place for locals. Standard meat and vegetable place but not a steam table. Also sandwiches and salads were available. Good food, good service and now I want to come back and try the... More

Also, the chicken and dressing is made in tree southern fashion. The wait staff is awesome, our glasses are never empty.

I've said it before...I love breakfast. The City Cafe is one of those places that I seek out whenever I travel. It's where the locals eat and gather for coffee and conversation. The waitresses are attentive and your coffee cup is never empty and the food is excellent. I had the eggs and country ham and my partner had the... More

After searching for an authentic old fashioned home cooking place, I discovered the City Cafe. I can see why it is also the favorite place for locals who prefer real food rather than fast food or cutesy places. Lunch was delicious...grilled ham with pineapple slices, sweet potato casserole, and Italian green beans, along with cornbread muffins. For dessert, I had... More

This my friends is Decatur's memory chest. When you enter memories well up within. Your Grandpa took you here for breakfast and the biscuit is still as wonderful. Your Dad took you here for lunch and the hamburger steak is still mouthwatering. The food is always complimented by friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. WE LOVE CITY CAFE!

I found this place only because of TripAdvisor. The reviews looked good, and I was taking a break from the highly commercial breakfasts in the area. The service was very friendly, however, my eggs were WAY overcooked. I ordered over easy, and the yolk was solid. The pancake was average, and the potatoes were as well. Overall, it was good... Understand, this is a small town city cafe/diner-not a fine dining establishment, and certainly not grande cuisine (Les Nomades,Gary Danko, etc,).It does a very good job at what it sets out to do-a satisfying American-southern breakfast and lunch(they close at 2pm). My family was taking an off-the-interstate road trip and drove past it at lunchtime and in we went for a most enjoyable... More

Your basic cafe but this location has been various restaurants for nearly 80 years. We enjoyed a father daughter breakfast date here. Good food and service at reasonable price.
