This is a beautiful old house and the guides are excellent to make the history of the house come alive. The furniture and objects give a sense of the past.

The food was super oily - the ba keluak chicken and assam prawn we ordered was layered with thick chilli oil and no, that's not typical of Peranakan food. We had only 3 dishes for late brunch and didn't finish the 3 dishes even though we were hungry. After tasting peranakan food at Anak Nyonya (see my other review), we... More

We chanced upon this restaurant while searching for peranakan food in the vicinity of Jonker street, and having given up on Nancy's Kitchen as the queue was too long. Peranakan House boasted a large waiting area with beautiful peranakan furniture. We were told to sit outside and wait. It turns out that while the dining area is large enough to... More

I entered with some trepidation because it appeared empty, the lovely entrance to this large restaurant about 120 places. The place was in fact half full and soon filled up.The food was very good , I tried the Nyonya Chap Choy ( sautéed cabbage ) and my friend tried the Sambal Sotong (cuttlefish in chili sauce ) and we shared... We arrived at the restaurant at 3pm and was told by the lady sitting by the counter that they are closed. Do note that most restaurants at Jonker Street closes around 2.30pm - 3pm. It was difficult for us to find a place which is actually open. However, the lady was nice enough to accommodate us and told us that... More

I had the good fortune to have a local friend who's been recommending restaurants serving Peranakan cuisines to out-of-towners. We had the usual Nyonya fare e.g. ayam buah keluak, nyonya chap cai, itik tim, etc. While the food and the ambience is good, there are room for improvement especially in the customer service. I was annoyed at the way the... More
