My wife and I stopped in on a Friday night and had the ham and cheese plate and the mushrooms. Both were great. She decided she wanted to have her birthday meal there two nights later. The manager took my number and texted me a reservation. They chilled a bottle of prosecco for us and had it ready. We asked... More

My kids and I had afternoon snacks here. Ordered the churros, calamari, garlic mushrooms and torta. The torta took a long time to cook but was worth the wait. The churros are forgettable. The rest are ordinary.

Shame that this restaurants seems having undergone a downgrading, also based on other negative comments here that I cannot but agree with. I have stopped here less than two years ago last time and I recall that there was a very Spanish flair. Spanish Manager and and Spanish chef. Now it looks like the chef and management have gone or... We stopped in for a quick bite and a beer. We ended up only getting pickled mixed olives because didn't have a lot of time. We enjoyed sitting where we could watch the happenings on the street.

Great place in the heart of Shanghai, great tapas and cocktails, good service and beautiful deco. They also have a cosy back room for extra seating with a deco I fell in love with. This place never fails: twice this trip and once before and still awesome. Will go back again!

On Wednesday evening we decided to have a few cocktails before deciding upon what we fancied for dinner. As we walked past the restaurant looked very appealing so we asked if it were OK to sit in the window booths (with a breeze) and order drinks, the hostess told us this was fine so we seated ourselves and flicked through... prices are quite high as it is in the French concession, the draft Warsteiner doesn't taste anything like the Warsteiner in Germany (I guess they serve some second-rate Chinese beer instead and sell it as Warsteiner), and the tapas were made with bread that wasn't fresh at all. Service is okay but I felt that they were a bit to... More

Hi All I have eaten here with firneds on a number of occassions. The food is of excellent quality but on certain occassions the service has not been up to scratch. On one occassion, the oysters gave everyone food poisioning. The manager was very good and gave everyone a free meal.

Shanghai has a few but good tapas places and this luckily was not my first or else I would have given up. The "lamb" was chewy or rather rubbery and when I mentioned to waitress she offered a different knife that could apparently cut through the rubber. The "slow cooked chicken" with shrimp was worse....how can you go wrong with... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
