We reserved a table and had a great time to enjoy crab. There are various Crab dinner sets. We chose the simplest one (around RMB 400). We planned to order some more afterwards. The service was excellent and responsive (which I felt was quite exceptional in Shanghai). The dishes came one after another. We simply could not complain anything about... More

This is a chain with multiple locations: we went to the one in Pudong, in Jin Mao building, about 500meyer from the Shanghai tower. We had a 10 course crab tasting menu, consisting of a small appetizer, 3 different crab soups, crab cakes, steamed crab (ask if they clean it for you!), noodles, and desert. The dishes were wonderful, somewhat... More

Very nice atmosphere that looks like an old palace with musicians playing while you dine. You go here for hairy crabs, a Shanghai specialty. There are tasty but you should grab the biggest ones you can get. Other food is also good and service is friendly.

We arrived late afternoon and after checking into our hotel, the first thing we did was to go to the hairy crab restaurant where I already made a reservation a couple weeks ago calling from Toronto.Yes! That's how much I love hairy crabs. They were fully booked but since I opted for the late seating, they gave the two of... More

Beautifully decorated restaurant that serves excellent dishes. Its design is shape like a pergola and one can have a privacy of a room without feeling claustrophobic. It is famous for its hairy crab dishes and a wide variety of cuisines. Prices are steep but given the good food, atmosphere and service, it is definitely worth the value.

This was an elegant restaurant with an interesting dining space. Anticipate lots of attentive service and if you get the chance opt for a second floor table with a view of the main dining hall on the first floor. Lots of interesting dishes integrating the hairy crab. In particular I would recommend trying the crab soft tofu and the crab... More

We happened to be fortunate enough to be here during hairy crab season. Best if you come with a local but if not, make sure you order... ...the chilled hairy crab ...the snowflake beef ...standard (male) hairy crab ...crab roe tofu Top it off with some blue label Chinese warm wine (shikumen). Very nice.

Someone wrote that an meal cost will an average of $20-30 per pax. How is that even possible when the cheapest hairy crab at a reasonable size is RMB190 each? Actually the cheapest is RMB90 but they had limited qty and the size of the crabs are so ridiculously small. They had RMB288, 488 & even 688 crabs. More expensive... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
