Stopped in for lunch. This little restaurant could taken out of 1930's Paris. Decor has old paintings and furniture including an upright piano and its quite dark and cosy. I opted for a steak and chips and was not disappointed. Very good steak with big chunky chips and lovely side salad set me up for the rest of the day.... More

This is a cute restaurant. The atmosphere is romantic. Come early for a window seat. The pizza is my favorite pizza in Shanghai. The staff is always pleasant and accommodating.

Found this pleasant restaurant whilst avoiding the hoards on Nanjing road. Had a very large potion of melon and parma ham followed by a perfect steak. The other half had an equally large chicken salad followed by a lamb dish. service was very good and efficient. menu in English. also very popular as people were asked to wait untill a... More

Back for a visit after living in shanghai for three years. Stumbled upon Petite Fleur while on a walk, and peeked in the windows. I vowed to return if only for the incredible decor/ambience, but could not have been more thrilled when the food was excellent, too! I've read some of the criticisms here regarding the staff not speaking English... More

The food here is really quite nice. But I only go on a day where I can take a full one hour lunch break (not often) as you tend to be waiting for food for quite some time. Nice environment if you like chintzy 30's style.

We went there last night for our wedding anniversary for the first time due to a friends recommendation. This place is very cosy, chic and definitely romantic. We decided to order a set menu and have to say that the food quality is good, fresh and tasty. Service is friendly but inexperienced which is a pity but at least they... More

Found this restaurant quite by chance by walking by one day and being amazed at the interior: it is like walking into a beautiful small old house when all the residents seem to have left it as it is and the tables are temptingly laid for dinner, all it needs is for you to sit down! But probably best to... More

Strolling along, looking for the Propaganda Museum, we passed La Petit Fleur (the restaurant says "La," not "Le," as listed above. We looked in to find a scene from southern France -- hand-painted tiles, dark wooden furniture, lace curtains. After 3 weeks of Shanghai eating -- which is delicious, but was becoming predictable -- we decided to give it a... More

We've been to Shanghai twice in the past 30 days and both times we made sure to visit Le Petit Fleur. The restaurant is tiny, but absolutely cozy and warm. The French antiques that line the walls plus the staff who speak a decent amount of English... added to the delicious menu... we love this place. We're vegetarian, and even... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
