Let's start from the most important thing, the food! I'm Italian and I have to say the taste is generally OK. Starting from appetizers, I never took any here, but I could notice from a neighbor that they are served a bit poorly... Also, I...love arancini and supplì but could not find them among the selection As to Pizza, they do the Napoli-style pizza (more thick) here, while I like the Roma's one (thinner and crispier) more. For this reason, in my opinion the pizza at Da Marco is better but this is really personal. Pasta is OK but unfortunately they don't have Cannelloni al tartufo anymore :( As to the second dishes (meat and so on), I just had the chicken and it was ok. Cocktail are also fine, just go for a Negroni with Aperol and u won't regret it... Finally, if you want a Gelato as well, the in-built "Il Buco" will be happy to serve you (but tastes are limited) ;) Location is super good, in Madang lu, which justifies the slightly high prices.... Toilet is clean and waiters are nice. What else to say: recommended, at any time of the day :)More

(I am Italian) I personally believe this is the best Italian restaurant among the ones I have tried in Shanghai. Pizza is crispy and tasty, and pasta and all the other dishes are really good as well. Love the environment and atmosphere there.

The pizza are very good although quite expensive priced considering the average price in that area of Shanghai. The drinks are fine and decently. The pasta are good and mostly handmade. The service on Sunday is not at the same level. Just as an example,...we ordered the coffee and the waiter did not remove the wooden plate of the pizza. On Sunday the manager is not there and the effect is unfortunately well visible.More

The food was good, but the 3 of us ordered 3 dishes, one of us has already finished her dish when the 2 other dishes came. And one of these 2 dishes was cold. It kind of destroyed the lunch.

Got a margarita pizza and a calzone, Calzone taste was not as expected, Dough crust was very dry, margarita pizza very simple nothing wow. They can get an italian chef maybe on the oven to make better pizzas.

Walking by, we noticed what looked to be a nice modern Italian restaurant and bar. We decided to try and treated to a great evening of food, drink and service. A nice menu of pasta, entrees, pizza and appetizers. The pizza was outstanding with a...nice tasty crust and good quality toppings. Service was attentive and helpful sharing specials, while checking in on a timely basis.More

Monday should be renamed Gemmaday!! Their deal is great, for the price you get good quality products with a comfortable portion. Plus is nice atmosphere and the girl manager is very friendly.

Part of the Popolo Group of restaurants, this recently renovated Italian bistro on Dong Hu Rd. has arguably the best pizza in Shanghai. Their Monday RMB111 special (pizza, beer and a gelato) can NOT be beat.

Having lived in Shanghai for over two years, we keep coming back to Gemma. Wonderful food in a beautiful casual environment. Recently the menu has become more diverse and interesting, so venture past the excellent pizza. Especially the salads are interesting and creative. The happy...hour wine, both red and white are very drinkable and a good deal in town. Some of the staff have been here a while and welcome us as neighbors. Nice touch. We keep coming back.More

Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly

it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will
sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their
mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area
seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet,
