Bread and Chocolate is a small, all natural, bakery and cafe on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. We offer a variety of freshly baked goods, hand-made chocolate truffles, and cakes, as well as breakfast and lunch.
Tried pancakes - were okay, but nothing special. Tried coffee - drunk better in Puerto Viejo. The girl serving us was lovely and kind. Cakes looked delicious, nevertheless we were full, so didn't take any.
Pancakes were good, seems like a chilled place to hang out. However smoothies were not great and the vegan cake my daughter took away had mould on it! Would have been good to know they were fresher. The bakery in town had better quality breakfast...More
My first experience here was not awesome. I had come in late during a holiday weekend and they were out of anything I liked and I poured because everyone else had wonderful food.
I went back... WOW.... the service, the smiles, the food, the freshest...More
We had read about Bread and Chocolate in the guidebook and made a beeline for it on our last day in Costa Rica for breakfast. We weren't disappointed! The homemade peanut butter and jam sandwich was amazing and the drinks were excellent. The atmosphere was...More

I can try to help you as much as possible on this question. We try to make as much as possible here in the restaurant so if you were here we would be able to let you know what ingredients are in each item so that you could determine whether you would have an issue or not.
I can tell you that we don't add any soy products to our bread or to our chocolate (I'd like to be sure when you get here to ask if any of the base products we use to make the bread could have any traces of soy just to be sure but I don't think there should be an issue). Our own bean to bar chocolate does not contain any soy lecithin. However, we are only able to produce about 80% of our own chocolate for the desserts we make. We still buy chocolate coverture to cover the ganaches for the truffle and the glazes for the cakes. This coverture does contain some soy lecithin. We could advise you in which chocolates would be possible for you to eat, such as the 60 and 72% chocolate bars.
In summary, I guess what I mean to say is that yes, I believe that you could eat many things here with no problem. With a serious allergies though, I always like to go through each ingredient with the person, to make sure there would be no issue. I hope this helps and I hope to see you soon.
