An oasis in the middle of bustling San Jose. Had a Arenal iced coffee/chocolate which was delicious. Also had an ice cream which was lovely even though two ingredients were missing! Definitely worth a stop.

You have to go here if in San Jose. Situated in the national theatre, it is easy to find. We were welcomed and looked after by the smiling and helpful Eduardo. I had a great “7 Provinces” coffee and my wife had the latte with...a slice of carrot cake - all great. The surroundings are also beautiful - loved it!!!More

We went here for a light breakfast on a Tuesday – it was right across from our hotel. Lovely location within the National Theater building. Food was good but service was just okay (to be charitable).

The coffee and desserts were delicious. The cafe is inside the Teatro Nacional. Built in 1894 still used today for ballet and opera. You can take a tour for a few Colones. It is downtown near all of the great food and shopping locations.

This is a must visit in San Jose. Nestled in the ornately decorated National theatre which is one of the only old buildings in the city. The coffee menu is extensive and the food was good. We had sandwiches, salad and a crepe. There was...also a fab selection of cakes but we resisted the temptation! If you go to the toilet you can get a peek into the theatre itself which is quite beautiful.More

Great food and drinks, Very attentive waiters and lots of locals, students on field trips. Kinda pricey but I guess they expect the tourists to afford it

We had a great lunch in this very well-run casual cafe. The menu has lots of options - sandwiches, wraps, salads and wonderful desserts. The four of us ordered different dishes and they were were all delicious. We also ordered Costa Rica Rica traditional coffee...and it was fun to watch the preparation and pouring!More

The cafe is inside the theatre building which is spectacular and if you go to the bathroom you can peep into the theatre! The cafe itself is very ornate. The food is Ok and the service a bit haphazard, but a beautiful place to just...sit and gaze.More

Very tasty options for a lighter lunch than traditional Casado meals at local joints. Certainly geared to tourists but creative drinks, coffees and lunch entrees were worth the price & how often do you get to eat in a historic theater with fantastic architecture?

The place really does look like Vienna in 1900. We had excellent sandwiches for lunch plus lemonade with mint. If you visit the bathroom you can peek into the theatre, amazing even if you don't take the tour, which we didn't.

Visitors to the theater can stop in this excellent little cafe for a delicious meal, and it's open to others who are there just for the meal. You don't need to take the tour or see a performance to dine here. It's a beautiful little...cafe with good service, fine food, and perfect coffee.More

The location, the menu, the services, and the visitors are all great every time, and we visit it frequently. Overall, this is an organic part of the theater experience.

I came here twice during my 3 week stay in San Jose and enjoyed the atmosphere alot. Their drinks are wonderful! I would probably skip the food if I were to come again (although I didn't try any of the postres) but definitely recommend a...stop in for a coffee or a smoothie in a beautiful cafe.More

We just finished the tour of the theater (which you should totally do - only $3/person) and decided to stop by for a late lunch. I’m so glad we did! I got the chicken salad sandwich on wheat bread and my husband got the beef...lasagna. I loved mine (maybe just a tad too much salt), he liked his. We got a mocha and a decaf black/white mocha. Both were tasty and beautiful too! The setting is gorgeous and we would totally come back for another meal if we were staying longer.More
