I made reservations here for my boyfriends birthday as our trip was for his big milestone birthday. We dressed up thinking since it was a steak house we would have a fancy dinner. This was absolutely NOT the case. The reviews for the food was...great and it was delicious BUT the decor and ambiance qas horrible. Its more of a bar with eccentric decor and paper napkins. I was horrified by the decor and felt very out of place. I tried checking the website but it is under construction. When we drove by initially I assumed the upstairs would be nicer and maybe downstairs was the bar part of the restaurant. I was appalled by the decor, there were paper napkins not even cloth. Not the experience I was expecting for a steakhouse and for those prices. Our bill was well over $150 CAD and the food was great, but it wasn't the birthday steakhouse dinner I expected. I emailed the restaurant 3 weeks in advance several times with no response to my reservation request. My hotel, once we got to Costa Rica called and made the reservation. They also include (like most places) a 10% service fee (tip) on top of the 13% tax. Then at the very end also added 500 colones ($1 USD) per take away container. The food was great but I felt like it ruined his birthday and I was upset and embarrassed to take him to a place like that all dressed up. Might have been ok had we worn jeans or dressed down.More

Worst meal in Costa Rica We went because of the good reviews but had one of our worst meals in Costa Rica here. Our starter didn’t come at all (kitchen mix up) we waiting 15 minutes to be served menus (we were about to leave...but ended up staying) I ordered the ribeye and it was more grizzle than steak and my friend ordered the fillet which was undercooked and chewy. My main course was cold so they offered a dessert which was heated in a microwave. They also tried to charge us for the starter we didn’t receive and I saw other tables also having to question their bill too. Overall the place feels grimey and if you’re looking for a good steak restaurant go elsewhere. Won’t be back.More

Steak with pepper sauce was really excellent. The red wine was simply awful. Tried Cab, Merlot and Malbec, all served cold and all terrible. Just go for the beef.More

After $160 USD , front of the restaurant is nothing like the photo, street bus stop next to open bar concept with plastic display case with local empanadas & desserts. As you enter the bar ( very dark) stairways to upstairs . Dark atmosphere with...balcony sitting for only 2 , chairs need deep cleaning and reupholstering with stands . Drinks , cocktail were ok, wine was sold by the bottle only ( starting at $40-) empanadas were dry , salad was average, skirt steak ( churrasco ) was okay, not steak house quality that I thought it was like in the picture in the TripAdvisor. Lomo sandwich ( filet mignon sandwich) Had lots of toppings, and ask to remove egg, ham . Did not comply and meat was not grilled, it look as it was precooked and warmed it up . I didn’t eat and just had a potato fry and some salad. Dessert passion fruit cheese cake , after two bites from my hubby, that was it , just plain no good . It wasn’t what I thought as posting on the web , I can understand how people liked this place !? Maybe just a support system in tourism!?More

We went here after seeing a lot of great reviews, but this restaurant ended up being just another expensive tourist trap, with food of very terrible quality. Based on how my entrecote looked like, it seems like they don’t really know how to cut meat....I would not recommend this to anyone, and less for the meat lovers.More

Our experience at the Tenedor Argentino has been exceptionally good. Right at the start, my wife asked for her favorite cocktail (Manhattan), which appeared not to be on the menu. However, the waitress asked for the ingredients and, five minutes later, a perfect Manhattan appeared...at our table. Our meal (filet mignon for my wife and 3 peppers filet for myself) was out of this world, including wrt presentation. The location of this little gem, across the avenue from the opera, with a view from the second floor, adds to the pleasure, but the absolute dedication of the staff is really what has conquered us. Muchas muchas gracias to them for a superb meal and a memorable evening.More

My husband and I stoped her for an early dinner and it was so good! We savored the cuts of meat we ordered every last bite and then we were surprised to find out that they had Guinness extra stout beer! Which is quite hard...to find stouts in Costa Rica. We would definitely be back for the food and drinks as well as the atmosphere! Only thing negative is I tried an Argentinian Alfajor and it was super dry and bland. Stick with the beer and meat! Can’t go wrong there!More

After asking the waiter (waiter #1) for the difference in the cowboy steak and the tomohawk, he showed us frozen cuts (surely as an example) so we decided on 2x cowboy steaks as we hadnt eaten all day. Waiter #2 then delivered the steaks and...the meal, then half way through- we noticed the cuts seemed different on both our boards. (See images) After finishing - one had a silly amount of fat left over compared to the other and they were both cooked differently. Only after reviewing both our 'pre meal pictures' we'd noticed the massive difference. When waiter #3 came to clear the table, we told him we weren't too happy as we'd feel conned that the cuts of meats were TOTALLY different. - he said he appologised and h'd tell the chef. (He didn't- after we asked to see the chef 3 times, then all of a sudden he didnt understand the english language. When the bill came, we called the manager and asked him to take the wine off the bill, he was a bit rude, by saying "well, you ate it all", but had no hesitation on taking the wine off the final bill. Food was good. Experience was poor. Make sure you get what you order. Service was far for professional.More
