Forget about that colored dog place if you are looking for a more authentic experience. If you want the sanitized cruise ship version then by all means stay down at the bottom of the road LOL. The Alaskan is meets the 2 rules of Juneau: Is it open all year round? hell yes. Is it full of tourists? Nope. Don't... More

I had wanted to re-visit the Red Dog Saloon but found that the original location has been replaced with one closer to the cruise ships and packed with tourists. So I wandered into this local gem and had a glass of wine and found it very easy to talk with the locals near me. I was too early for the... More

We didn't eat here, but shared a beer with some locals. It's worth a stop just to soak in the ambiance. We heard there's live music here most nights during the season but we were too late!

Stopped here while waiting for friends to arrive for dinner (elsewhere). Service was prompt and friendly, prices were average for Juneau and Alaska. Enjoyed my adult beverage while listening to a local band. Band was actually pretty good, fun to watch, and band leader was funny as hell. Bar was of vintage size (huge) with all the dark wood and... I stopped in here after not being able to get into the overly crowded saloon down the street, and I'm so happy this is where I ended up. This is an incredibly dimly lit, two story, old west bar! I came for drinks with my mom and friend and we ended up staying for multiple rounds and having more people... More

This is a no-nonsense down to earth bar that is very popular with locals. Sometimes there is live music as well. Fun place to have a few beers or to stay for a few hours.

Stopped here on the recommendation of a tour guide. Old decor from turn of the century town. They had a great local band playing and served a surprisingly wide variety of craft brews. A great place to get off the crowded street and have a drink and listen to live music. Stay away from the Red Dog tourist trap and... More

We stopped in and had a beer at the bar - good variety including Guinness. Pints were $6. While we were there a bluegrass group started playing - it made for an enjoyable time. The Red Dog is now WAY TOO TOURISTY. This is a great alternative.

Lively bar with local crowd, live music and you will not be treated like a tourist. Great selection of beers and prices are reasonable. Had great conversation with various local Alaskans, highly recommend!

Forget the Red Dog saloon. If you want an authentic, dripping with history and atmosphere, charming place for a cold one, go to the Alaskan Bar, next to the hotel by the same name in the heart of Frankling street, a short walk from the cruise ship docks. We happened in while the house blue grass band was playing around... More
