La Escalera was one special experience in this lovely medieval "pueblo". The food is really excellent as well as the "tinto de verano"! The Chef is Portuguese and that explains the wonderful codfish dishes in the menu. Must try!

Just off the Plaza mayor, down the corner steps by the church, is this hidden gem of a bar/restaurant. Despite atrocious language skills on my part - not helped by the fact that much of the menu is in Portuguese and Catalan - the staff were so helpful, even getting a laptop to do the translations on Google. The food... More

Together with my friend, we went to La Escalera overall 3 times during 4 days. The selection of dishes was fitting for me and for my Spanish friend who judged it as quite special and traditional for the region. For me, I was enchanted by the attentive service who was treating us with care going much beyond anything I experienced... More

Came across this when wandering through the town centre. Normal looking bar on top but a cosy little restaurant downstairs. Saturday lunchtime in November and we got a table without a reservation. There was an outside terrace area which would be locally in the summer. Service was attentive and efficient, and food very good. We shared a lovely and huge... More

Not just the same "patatas revolconas" and "chuleton" fare as most of the places around "la plaza de la victoria / el chico". The daily menu is very cheap and a little more varied than most places, including an excellent selection of deserts. Very good attentive service and nice clean decor dots the I's to push this up to a... More

I have spent two weeks in Avila, and during this period, I did spend some time and money at various restaurants in Avila. However, out of all the places, I must admit, I always longed to return to this place. It serves great food. I have had both the pinxtos and the food served at the restaurant downstairs. 5 round... Was busy when we first arrived but were told we could have a table in 45mins..walked back to a bar for an aperitif and then returned. Were shown to a table downstairs, which was initially empty so rather lacking in atmosphere but it soon filled up. I had a very tasty veal escalope and he had the pork chuleton which... More

I went to La Escalera with kids and friends and we were warmly received, tasted very good codfish, meat from the region and delicious deserts. The waiter was also very helpful with the wine choice. All for a very good price! Charmly located

I certainly enjoyed the food served at this restaurant, the quality and atmosphere was perfect!. The quality and price is factastic as you can eat a good piece of meat for a reasonable price. You can go there whenever you are visiting the centre and it is really close to the borough, I recommend this place to anyone who wants... More

We ate dinner, one Castillon menu and one Portugese menu. Both came with a really good first course (some kind of mashed patatoes for the Castillon and a mixed combined with fruits salad for the Portugese). The second course consisted of a large piece of well prepared beef for the Castillo and something a bit unclear (something with mashed potatoes... More
