New restaurant to try!

We visited this restaurant on their third day of business. It was phenomenal! We had the Beast burger and the Homestead salad. The burger was cooked just as we had asked and was delicious, and juicy, full of flavor. The salad was fresh romaine leaves and had dried cranberries, feta cheese, sunflower seeds, tomato, and cucumber. My husband and I split the two dishes and we were both quite satisfied for a lunch option. The restaurant was clean and new and the restrooms were very clean. I would highly recommend this spot when visiting Talkeetna, AK.

Unexpected Flavor and Service

It was nice to sit on the porch in the sun. Tasty Hearty food that wasn't the usual burger and fries. Chili was a little spicy for my husband but they offered a taste before getting a huge bowl. Service was nice and we enjoyed what we did get.

Great little eatery!

What a great little eatery. This place was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. The scallops were amazing. I asked to have the corn relish subbed with the micro greens that were slated for the shrimp dish that was sold out. They happily obliged. They were so good I almost ordered another plate. The burgers and fries were great too. I’m picky about my fries, and prefer them crispy and hot. They scored on both points. Nice friendly staff and good service.

My mom & I went for lunch while we were waiting for our train- I got the kid’s cheeseburger & my mom got a salad. Her salad was brought out first & when my food wasn’t brought out at the same time, they said it would be 5-10 minutes. 20+ minutes passed & my mom had already finished her whole salad. Other people’s food had been brought out that ordered several people after us & when my mom complained to the servers & they said they had no manager. When I asked to just get a refund, they said my food just came out & packaged my food up for me to go without the refund. Another couple waiting to speak to them had the same issue. The wait isn’t the biggest issue, it was the food coming out at differing times with other people receiving their food before mine when they had ordered much later. The food was good however which is why I didn’t leave it at a one star.

Disappointing and Overpriced

Unfortunately the good taste of the food was overshadowed by their lack of organization. After 30 minutes, one person still hadn’t gotten their meal after asking 3 times. The kids mac n cheese was $13 but was only a small side dish. And we paid for a soda that was out and didn’t get replaced until after we left. I typically focus on the positive of an experience, but this was bad.

Disappointing.

We were told by a couple of people to eat at The Homestead. It was quite disappointing. My wife had the scallops which were a bare morsel of four tiny scallops. The Beast Burger was recommended by the Staff and made to sound like the best burger ever. It was supposed to be elk, bison, wild boar and Wagyu beef. It was way over cooked and was like a hard hockey muck. Not juicy at all. Toppings were scarce. French fries were mediocre. Go across the street to the Salmon Spot and get twice the food, twice the flavor and half the price.

Unfortunately they were out of a lot of things when we arrived, so choice was limited. We got the Homestead Salad, it was ok. I didn't care for the poached apples, I would have preferred plain raw apple slices in it. We also got the Homestead Burger ($21) which was a bit dry and lacked flavor (Bison, Elk, Wild Boar Patty). It felt like it was just the patty and bread, there were not enough fixings or sauce in it. You go up to the counter and place your order and pay. In clear, sunny weather, there are tables outside. I might try a different place if ever in the area again, unless they have the Denali Potato on the menu; i would like to try that.

Enjoyable Lunch at Homestead Restaurant in Talkeetna, AK

Excellent service.. All of the employees were great especially Chelsea who took care of us. Pleasant and extremely helpful. Food was delicious. Angus burgers and duck fries were wonderful. Very clean dining area and restrooms were as well. I would definitely recommend Homestead Kitchen to anyone that wants to have a reasonably priced and delicious meal in Talkeetna, AK. E. At home in the Homestead Kitchen!

I had the salmon sandwich and hubby had the scallops and grits. After being seated promptly by the manager Allan, who accommodated our group of six, we were promptly given menus and the drinks we ordered. The homemade chips were a hit with my group and I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich. My hubby’s scallops and grits platter was seasoned just right. We also didn’t wait long for our meals and it was relatively busy especially outside. Roisin our waitress, although new in the job, worked hard for us and was pleasantly engaging. This would be a 5 star review excepting the fact that we had to leave the bldg for the restrooms. But this is, after all, Alaska and creature comforts are different here lol. But the quality of the food was a 5 star! I actually ordered location that ended up being not what I envisioned from the description and they reversed the charge after taking it back! A rare event indeed in most restaurants!! TY homestead Kitchen!

The meal we had here was excellent - I had a duck poutine (being from Quebec, I like to think I'm a decent judge of what makes a good poutine, and this one was delicious) while my wife had a flatbread that was also yummy. The service was fast and friendly. We showed up just before closing at 8 and they never rushed us out the door, which we appreciated! The outdoor seating area is right there on Main Street. Highly recommended!

3 of us visited at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. Beer and wine only but Holly, our bartender worked hard to find something we all liked. Dylan, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. The floor manager was present and accounted for. Our group had the crab hushpuppies as an app and the halibut sandwich, which was very crispy, nice sized and beautifully presented. Also had the fried pork chop which was huge and very tender with crispy fried potatoes, 3rd entree was the scallops and grits which had a very flavorful tomato based sauce on it. Patio/deck was clean and well stocked. Only disappointment was the house salad dressing, not much flavor to it, however Dylan suggested a couple other dressings they had available for next time. Prices were reasonable for the portions that you received. I will definitely visit again.

Excellent find in Talkeetna for real (delicious!) food!

This spot may be new-ish, as I hadn't read about it during my pre-travel planning, but it was a gem and I'm so glad we stopped in! A local recommended the spot, and we were delighted with the menu and the amazing food and service that were offered here. Would totally recommend this for the quality of their food and the great ambience of the spot.

Warm hospitality with excellent food

I and my friends had nice dinner here. We ordered seafood chowder, homemade pie, summer salad, weathervane scallops and pork chop with Alaska beer. Food was awesome and staff was quick and courteous. But the best part was the vibes of restaurant,like family dinners. It has good value of money. The staff was very friendly especially Danny.

2nd visit here. This visit was just as good as the 1st one. Dylan was our server and he was amazing and very knowledgeable, present but not hovering. Shared the crab hushpuppies. Love the dipping sauce that comes with them. I tried the Susitna Shandy cocktail. It was the perfect refreshment to end a hot day. They have a very nice cocktail menu for a place with beer and wine only. For dinner I had the Homestead Pie which Dylan recommended. It was the perfect portion size, flavorful and had the most wonderful flaky biscuit on top. It was obviously made on premise. My dining guest had the Homestead Burger which he asked for as rare as they would cook it. It arrived a beautiful rare(which is very difficult to get) and he was ecstatic over it. They serve no fries but the homemade kettle chips are crunchy and delicious. I would highly recommend the Homestead for any meal of the day!!!

Great Food!!

Great food! This is a newer place in Talkeetna and we were pleasantly surprised. I had the Denali loaded potatoe with fries instead of a potatoe and it was DELICIOUS. Nice people and great service. Would definitely come here again for this dish and to try other things on the menu.
