We popped in to have Cocktails. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. The Cocktails was brilliant. They do offer food.

Had a wonderful lunch and glass of wine while relaxing at the same time! I had some time to kill before an appointment and was drawn to Lucky Bean by the beautiful white umbrellas ...what an awesome experience.

Restaurant without pretencioms with delicious meals as the fishcake and the ostrich dish. Its desserts are are also tasty temptations in which you can fall without remorse.

Lovely place - ostrich burger must be one of the best burgers I've had. The atmosphere was great and the coffee- proper coffee. The service was friendly and very accommodating- they open at 11 we were early. Next time I'll also try the deserts. My girlfriend had the Salmon- also very impressed. Will recommend the Lucky Bean.

Most of the restaurants in the surrounding area have similar menus featuring pizza, pasta, burgers and meats. It was refreshing to find more sophisticated offerings at Lucky Bean. The ambiance is cute, evoking a cafe with outdoor seating that still felt intimate. The menu is a blend of African, South African and vegetarian items, with a good amount of inventive... More

We also stayed at the Guest House owned by same owner and he (Conway) told us about it.Its a short walk (15 minutes) from the guest house at end of main drag, which is full of bars/restaurants...MOST had a noisy Spring Break feel to them and a very young crowd,so we were glad when we finally reached the quite Lucky Bean... Generally everything was fine - pleasant decor, effective service, good starter. Then my partner ordered the braised lamb shank. The most expensive dish on the menu so one would expect it to be well prepared. Well.... it was frozen. Cold and inedible in the middle. We reported it to the waiter, who showed a suitable degree of concern and asked... More

I am so sorry about this. As you would expect from the quality of our reviews, this is not our standard at all. I can understand how disappointed you must have been, and this has been addressed with the kitchen and the manager on duty. We are sincerely sorry. Best wishes, Conway More

I have visited this Melville restaurant twice before when attending conferences at Wits University and University of Johannesburg, and was impressed by their food. Recently I attended another conference at Wits and was put up in a B&B around the corner with a fellow conference guest from Cape Town. On the first evening after the conference opening we were looking... More

We began dinner with the hibiscus gin and tonic. I don't usually care for G&T but this was great! We had lamb tzatziki appetizer as well as aubergine salad and both were good. The springbok pie was fabulous. My husband had the Senegal chicken which was lightly spiced. We shared the chocolate pot dessert which is buttery shortbread cookies sandwiched... More

Nice pastries and good coffee gets the thumbs up for this cafe. Attentive service and a welcome shelter from the thunderstorms we experienced whilst here.
