At the Troyeville Hotel you can choose to sit in the restaurant at the back with one of the best views over the urban jungle that is Hillbrow close to the Ellis Park Rugby stadium or in the rowdy but atmospheric sports bar in the body of this traditional early 20th century pub where there is a mixed clientele from... Excellent place for lunch, very authentic Portuguese/Mozambican food- prawns, fish, chicken livers, etc. Friendly service, especially to the kids, and personal service from the manager owner. Secure parking round the back of the hotel, strongly recommend.

The restaurant sells Mozambique food and has huge plates. If you are hungry and you like to eat with your hands, it is fantastic. It was not so easy to find the place.

About the only place in downtown Johannesburg which white people still frequent. We had great food including Mozambique prawns and rabbit. Nice to see locals in the bar sipping Castles and a busy restaurant throughout the afternoon. Don't miss to see a bit of authentic life in the city.

If you're planning to eat here on a weekend, it's advisable to book in advance as the place can fill up very quickly. I honestly cannot find fault with the extensive menu, and have never disappointed. Service and food of the highest standard -- and that at affordable prices.

Went for a quiet midweek lunch and was expecting the restaurant to be empty but to our surprise it was pretty full and hosting a company lunch. The service was still excellent and our waiter was attentive and friendly. The prawns were superb, cooked exactly right in the true Portuguese way. Chips were fresh and hand cut and beers were... Had a business meeting there recently and all 5 of us agreed that the restaurant still maintains it's charm and serves good food. I had the prawn curry, still one of the best I have tasted while the other diners chose a variety of dishes. All enjoyed the meal and some newbies will be going back. A tip- park behind... More

The Troyeville Hotel is an institution in Johannesburg, the serve excellent prawns and french fries, and the starters of calamari and chicken livers served with chorizo sausage cuts is also perfect. Their peri-peri never disappoints. We were served by Maezinha, great attitude and prompt service.

Flamingo Resturant at the back of Troyville Hotel. Parking at the back of the hotel off Princess Street. A pedestrian stair leads up to the Resturant. Security guard and car guard. Seafood is fresh and by far the best choice on the menu.
