Mother and daughter team experienced and famous for special meals , catering and delicious cheese-cake In a small town like Hermanus it still has the intimate feeling of sitting at the family table chatting to friends etc Outside under the trees or inside in a small but cosy spot . Served and welcomed by the owners regular customers have lunch... More

I've been going to Cuckoo tree for 10+ years. Best breakfast in town and great lunches. Small restaurant hidden away from the tourists - there a reason this is a spot for the locals. Friendly family run and served. Try the 'craig' special breakfast and fish for lunch.

Had breakfast here one day and it was really nice. Interesting menu and all carefully prepared on order so takes a little longer but boy was it worth it.

The breakfast we had at Cuckoo tree was excellent and not expensive. The eggs were well cooked and prepared. Service was friendly and prompt. We highly recommend this listing and we will soon return for lunch.

An absolutely gorgeous meal. Not often that I rave about a salad, but wow what a salad!! Followed by a first class fillet steak. First class evening. Thank you.

A good meal with a small but interesting menu. Staff very obliging and found us a table outside in the small courtyard despite having booked inside. Need to allow at least a week to get a table. Will definitely return again.

We went there with our family including a 17 month old baby, they could not have been more welcoming or attentive. Excellent food and service, great ambiance. Took all the stress our of eating out with a little one. A real find.

I had a beautiful, just right cooked half of a line fish - it was very moist and better than any halibut or salmon that I ever had. Seemed like locals ate there. Lots of birds at the tree feeder to keep you busy while you waited.

We visit this restaurant quite often and we have tried almost all the menu dishes. We highly recommend this spot sitting in the garden for a good meal and its excellent friendly service. Great value for money.

Description
The Cuckoo Tree was recommended by a friend. Had it not been we would not have come across it. Seating only ablout 30 people, it is an elegant and warm restaurant, run by a mother and her daughters. Lovely ambience, we noticed the others there looked like people "who know their food". An advanatage is you can take your own wine without corkage. Tastefully set tables. I would descibe the menu (dinner) as almost eclectic. Not large, but an emphasis on more unusual dishes, not the run-of-the-mill ones seen so often. We shares a double blue cheese souffle. Beautifully dopne, soft and featherlike and not too overpowering in terms of cheese. We each opted for the crispy duck - two generous portions and while crispy on the outside, the flesh was tender. Served with an orange and Van der Hum liqeur sause (the latter being a South African liqeur). it was served separately so as to prevent the duck becoming soggy. Vegertables just cooked - therefore crispy - without sugar added which is a disgusting South African habit. For dessdert we shared camembaert cigars in a rasberry coulis. Mmm. Afterwards sat out side - beautiful evening - drinking coffee and polishing off the last bit of wine. Were joined by Mum and daughters and ended up chatting for about another hour. I/we eat out a bit and travel a lot so have a pretty good idea of what is good and what is excellent. I would award 5 stars. If asked where my best dining experience was in the last year, I would have no hesitation whatsever nominating The Cuckoo Tree. Their telephone number: From outside South Africa: 00 28 3123430. From within: 028 3123430.
They also serve teas, breakfast and lunch. And change the menu every now and then.
