My wife and I enjoyed a lovely meal at the Barefoot Cook. Slightly off the beaten track, you enter through a book shop to a charming dining room. The menu is limited to 3 starters and mains, but still great choices, we both started with the wonderfully tasty asparagus and smoked trout soup, my wife chose the perfectly cooked lamb... More

We had lunch today at The Barefoot Cook in Hermanus. A little out of the way and unusual since there is a book shop in front. We were greeted at the door by the Barefoot cook herself. and she is in fact barefoot! The restaurant is unpretentious and manages to do rustic with serenity. The menu is on the wall... More

A review on another www site lead me to this restaurant! It is not open every day, so you need to check ahead. Seating is limited, and the choice too - which may put some off, but what you get is a small selection of dishes done really really well! - wine selection is great, and this is well worth... More

The first problem with "The Barefoot Cook" is that the entrance is through a fine antique bookshop. For me, that is a double distraction. The second problem is choosing what to eat, because the (blackboard) menu changes frequently. However, they nearly always offer such delights as kidneys and liver, so I know I'm not going to be disappointed. Salads, vegetarian,... More

Lovely little courtyard space with a relaxed feel. The menu was small but everything was beautifully fresh and tasty. Best choice of the day was the creme brulee - one of the best I've ever had (and I've had hundreds!) Service attentive but laid back and wine recommendations were refreshingly honest.

Tiny menu & as we'd had a good lunch, we decided to skip the starters and rather have a dessert. I had the half a duck (their signature dish) which was good (R185), & Mike the dorado (fish of the day, R150). Veges (carrots & a lovely creamed spinach) accompanied the mains. My crème brulee was good (thick & creamy,... More

Different from the same ole, same ole, tired menus in SA.. First rate choice. Excellent cuisine. Every detail taken care of for the entire evening. Service impeccable. Ambience delightful.

Delightful restaurant with wonderful staff. The food is beyond delicious. However we found it really expensive. R185 for duck and most other dishes R145-a bit too high for a tiny restaurant out of the way...

We had a truly wonderful dinner at this charming restaurant , one of few offering consistently good fare in Hermanus. Good local wine list reasonably priced and good service make this restaurant a must. The apple pie is particularly good.Congratulations Marie Claire!
