We came here for a coffee break and loved the selection of pastries. All freshly baked, creative and very very tasty. The coffee was also good. The lunch options also look good and we might be back for more

Even for people used to good bread - ;) - they're serving some seriously delicious food in the Île de pain! Best bread I tasted in South Africa so far - and they got a huge variety in breads & pastries and also offer big breakfasts or light lunches - a place to be happy...

It's taken 6 months for us to get to IDP after their reopening at the end of last year and we ask ourselves WHY??!! Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! The Cuban Sandwich special is tops and the Duck Confit is a taste extravaganza. Our waitress Beverley was of the same standard. Thanks guys - we won't wait another 6 months to return... More

What an incredible place! The decor, the smells, the ambiance, the food. My Mauritian wife has been telling me about this place in Knysna and I finally got to experience it as we drove through Knysna. It surpassed all the superlatives she'd used for it. We're going back tomorrow on our way home!

A visit to Knysna isn't the same if you don't go to Isle de Pain for French pastries and divine brunches. I ordered a roasted cauliflower dish that blew my mind! I had to ask for the recipe and now I've forgotton it. Will have to go back!

The cauliflower agro dolce is sublime! I'll let you into a little secret...chef Liezie has started writing her second cook book and a little bird told me that this recipe will be included. We'll all have to be a little patient though as the book will only be ready next year. In the meantime do come back and enjoy this... More

First visit to the 'new' Il de Pain - we have been frequenting this restaurant for about 10 years, twice a year during visits to Knysna, and even their 'coffee shop' while they were rebuilding the restaurant. The food at the restaurant is as good as before, the service the usual high standard. What was very disappointing was the sandwiches... More

We have been to the restaurant before and each time there has been a queue. Normally we walk away but this time we decided to wait it out. The waiting area is outside and it was cold. Once seated we found ourselves in a drafty area close to an exit door which was continually opened & closed. Coffee was good... More

Description
We are ile de pain 2.0, a team of authentic artisans and devoted individuals; foodies, fundis, artists, professionals and dreamers, all waiting to welcome you to our magical cafe. We are committed to honest food and superlative service, upholding heritage and embracing evolution, supporting traditional farmers and local suppliers, developing people and creating community.

Our cafe dishes offer a superlative level of honest sophistication in flavour and creative visual presentation. Each dish is lovingly and mindfully prepared using simple, fresh and beautiful ingredients that we hand select. We bake bread - good, honest bread that tastes the way it ought to. Our patisserie creates rustic yet refined desserts that offer a balance of delicate and decadent. We cultivate relationships with valued local growers who produce in small quantities and are entirely devoted to their land and craft.

ile de pain is a place to gather, making friends of strangers. We find our guests respond to the energy of the cafe, and in turn fill it with life, adding to the unique experience that it is. Our new light and airy, open-plan layout encourages patrons to witness our team at work and understand the way in which we lovingly prepare “real” food.
