The modern and relaxing courtyard at the Oude Werf Hotel has become one of our favourite dinner spots in town. Servers are professional and friendly and are happy to assist and guide whenever needed. I'd suggest starting off the evening with a bottle of the "house" Oude Werf MCC and a prawn starter which, believe it or not, easily serves... More

Had a steak and boboti, both was good, however steak was covered with much to much sauce (kind of bernaise) and a little bit to much done for medium. Only three points as I had for starter pears with goat cheese, which came with Camembert instead of goat cheese as it was out. I would have ordered something else if... More

Went with a group of 12 without making a reservation. They were very helpful and were happy to rearrange tables to suit us. Food was really nice. Good range of dishes. Service was really good.

We decided to dine at Oude Werf during our "fast" month so were expecting to have to turn away loads of "unhealthy" food options. What a nice surprise to be served a delicious (though small) Caesar salad. The mains were delicious and the service was satisfactory.

First visit to the hotel's restaurant: great food, good service. Will definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu. I can recommend the slow-roast pork belly and the chicken pie, and for dessert the Strawberry, Apple & Almond Crumble!

We stayed at the hotel during our one night stay in Stellenbosch and decided to eat at the hotel for a change as the courtyard in this fabulous hotel looked beautiful by day. We entered the restaurant from the street via a side alley there were no lighting to show that there was actually a restaurant here and no menus... More

I recently went to Oude Werf for a business lunch. The staff was friendly and the food was great. What wasn't great, however, is that the waiter had no idea how to do a wine presentation. The wine wasn't opened at the table, rather, it was shown to us and then taken away to be opened. The wrong person's wine... More

The two of us ordered bobotie. It was without flavour and made with way too much egg. Bobotie is supposed to perk your taste buds, to invite you to savour curry, to make you smile for the traditional, simple, flavourful dish that it is. The chef managed to serve the blandest mince dish possible. And that was after half an... More

The restaurant is part of the hotel that we were staying in and on our first night, having just arrived, we ate in. Whilst it was not busy it was full enough to give atmosphere and the decoration really helped here. Our server was excellent and whilst the menu was limited and appeared not to change, the food itself was... More

Really lovely food and wine. Great atmosphere. Was a bit unsure at first as this restaurant is part of the hotel, but was rally pleasantly surprised. Perfectly cooked steak and really tasty starters. My new favourite place in Stellenbosch!

Description
Exceptional food and drink at Oude Werf has been a Stellenbosch institution for more than 200 years. The dishes of the first inn’s Tant Betjie Wium delighted her guests in the 1800’s and today, this tradition lives on in a new restaurant, designed by top SA architects Revel Fox, which opened in 2014.

Built over the foundations of the hotel’s famous 17th Century churchyard site (still visible today) the restaurant is centred on a charming in-situ kitchen. There are touches of period detail recalling the hotel’s heritage and even a huge tree is incorporated into the spacious interior.

Outdoors, a vine-covered courtyard dining area with water features is a reminder of the ‘lei-water’ canals that once existed here. Just off the courtyard, a period-style lounge, with bar and barista station opens onto the hotel’s central gardens and pool deck - another quiet spot for a glass of wine, cocktail or coffee.

The restaurant’s signature dining style is Cape Traditional food with a contemporary gourmet ‘twist’ and features varied menus with classic dishes showcasing the flavours and ingredients of the area, complemented by an extensive selection of wines from this celebrated region.

From easy breakfasts, light seasonal lunches, to hearty dinners or baked delights, Oude Werf Restaurant offers a delicious sample of Cape cuisine in a relaxing, convivial setting that’s essentially Stellenbosch.
