My friend and I was visiting Old Town Scottsdale from Atlanta when we were walking down the street and noticed the Sugar Bowl. I love candy, cookies, cake and especially ice cream so I had to stop by once we were finished eating dinner. I had the pleasure of meeting Ricky who has worked there for the last 39 years. Ricky is handsome, funny and a joy to talk to. He gave us a little history about the ice cream shop and made me the best ice cream sundae I have ever had. It reminded me of the good old days. The experience was the best and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful person. Please give Ricky a raise, a paid vacation or something special. He deserves it.

I had read about this place, before hubby and I came on our visit to Scottsdale and area. Interesting tho', my mom and I used to come to Scottdale area, way back in the late 80's/early 90's, and I had never heard of this place, and missed it back then, while we visited Old Town! So, hubby and I grabbed 2 seats at the counter, then ordered. The order was quick to give, but the meal took quite awhile to come. It was busy in there, but we had only ordered simple meals! Hubby had tuna on marble rye, potato chips and a mint chocolate milkshake. I ordered the soup and tea sandwiches. The soup was tomato vegetable beef. Interesting re. the sandwiches, as only 3 triangles were given. I expected a whole sandwich worth!

A true old school ice cream parlor. Huge menu of ice cream treats. Our treats were fabulous. The sandwiches looked good too. Only drawback is the restrooms are one stall so you may wait your turn.

Lovely ice creams / sundaes in a very busy restaurant on a Sunday evening. $20 plus tip for a two scoop bowl (chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip) and a Dusty Road sundae plus a black coffee.

We had old fashion ice cream ( also serve lunch) which was delicious. The atmosphere was old-fashioned and fun. Service was excellent. I had Malt sugar on top of my Hot fudge ice cream sundae. Of course, a cherry on top too!

The charm of this place is the experience of eating retro style food in a 1950s era diner - people who complain about the quality of the food are missing the point. The staff are attentive and very friendly, and the attached arcade is a great source of amusement for the kids. Overall a very unique experience!

Such a cute vintage place. They have a great selection of sundaes, splits, shakes, & malts. Some interesting flavors too. It's old and small so if you have a big group expect to wait. This is in old town Scottsdale so there is ample public parking in the area but you may have to circle around a few times.

I had the top hat sundae. Cream puff and vanilla ice cream had no flavor. My husband had blarney parfait. Again- not much flavor. The descriptions sound better than the actual dish.

We went with a bunch of kids for ice cream. Ice cream was super expensive and appeared to be made by blue bunny, or that was the name on the containers in the dumpster. It felt more dirty than old time charming. I would not go back a second time

Everyone in Scottsdale knows the Sugar Bowl! It's the 1950s-style ice cream parlor and diner that serves a big scoop of nostalgia. But let's be honest: The ice cream is really average. There are many better ice cream and gelato places in Scottsdale -- some only a few blocks away. You can get a deli sandwich or a cup of soup at the Sugar Bowl, and those are just fine. Basic diner fare -- nothing innovative. The side room has an arcade, but every time I go, it seems like half the machines are broken. Yes, the kids can play the machines and get ice cream in the same place, but if kids' games are what you're after, you're better off going to Dave & Buster's. So why go to the Sugar Bowl? The atmosphere. People go there for a sense of nostalgia. Every time I take Grandma there (which is a couple of times a year), I hear someone at a neighboring table, say, "Isn't this quaint? It's so old-fashioned!" But if you want better ice cream, better sandwiches, or better games, they can be found elsewhere nearby.

We stumbled on The Sugar Bowl walking around Old Town. It is so vintage and inviting. Fast service and incredibly good ice cream options. Check out all the Family Circle cartoons on the wall with notes and signed by Bill Keane. Don’t miss this sweet family owned shop.

Sorry, some in our group wanted to stop because it looked nostalgic. It looks nostalgic but it’s just plain dated in terms of menu and taste. The food was so bland. The menu is dated. My “white meat of tuna” salad was really actually horrible. The tuna salad ball was like a finely whipped tasteless ball on top of lettuce with a very old wedge of tomato and rubbery boiled egg. No one had the slightest appetite left for a dessert after our lunch. I would just not ever let someone eat a meal here. Sorry. Hope your desserts were somehow better but I expect they were out dated now too

Cute 50’s themed diner/icecream parlour. Called for cool drink mid morning and returned for lunch. Service was exceptional and very welcome on such a hot, tiring day. Enjoyed a Rueben sandwich and my husband had a chicken salad sandwich. Food was good without being great. Would return here next time I’m in Scottsdale.
