Any parent traveling with their kids, know the sh**y kids menus: chicken nuggets, kids burgers or something equally bad. Not this place!

Gamli Bistro and Bar are the same place. It is an good restaurant. We wanted the veggie burger but they were out of it so ended up with the fish and chips (quite good) and burger (pretty good). They were out of ketchup which seemed...ridiculous for a tourist restaurant. The staff was nice. The food arrived fast. There was no wait for a table when we got there. All in all a good stop but not excellent. Lacked something special about it, but did have good tourist food at average to high prices.More
We came for lunch, place is very nice so first impression was great, than waiter with dirty shirt and trousers came so we were thinking ok what is going to happen but she was very nice. We had fish and chips and one chicken meal....Fish and chips was average. This is one of our last days on Iceland - we had already several fish dishes and this was not the best one and was for highest price. And after few hours our stomachs did not felt ok. Chicken seems to be nice.More
Very slow service. After 15 minutes of not being acknowledged, I finally had to go ask for service. Food was ok, he liked the wings. I had fish and chips, chips were made from frozen fries. Overall ok but service was cold as was the...temperature.More
We only had coffee, mainly because the food looked mediocre and service was non-existent anyway. We grabbed our own coffee at the bar and sat ourselves. Minus the use of the restroom, I wouldn’t return. Coffee was fine.
This was our worst experience in Iceland. The service was poor. I ordered a wrap, my husband a burger - both were ok. My teenage son ordered a chicken breast over rice. The breast was the size of one chicken tender. When the food was...dropped off, we all stared in amazement but thought, maybe that's typical here. However, a bit later a local couple sat right next to us and the wife ordered the same. She received a nice sized chicken breast on her plate. So, I don't know if they had a thing against Americans in particular, foreigners in general, or just us. Our server didn't appear again until he brought the bill. We had to go to the counter for drink refills. When he delivered the bill, he seemed shocked when I complained about my son's dinner. His one redeeming factor, he knocked a bit off our bill. I'd say, however, don't waste your time eating there. My husband said the men's room was disgusting.More

Don't know about an English menu (when you get there it will be in English) but the food is good and reasonable as far as Iceland standards. The Arctic chat is always recommended and the potato salad that comes with it is divine. Always look at what the special is too (go up to the bar and look in the glass setup). And as with most Icelandic restaurants, when you're done you have to go up to the register to pay... They won't bring you the bill to your table, so don't sit around waiting for it. :)
