Normally this place is good - but we had a miserable waiter - it was two family members birthdays - they didn't bother to do anything although they were asked if they would when we booked. So disapointing. We spent a few hundred pounds and...More

Having visited the Royal Oak over a period of over 40 years (and therefore over the entire period of the current owners), this is definitely not the place it used to be. While the service was attentive, the food offer has deteriorated to the point...More

Sausage and mash for both but well served and ok value with a good pint of local IPA. Service needed chasing which is unusual but everyone perfectly apologetic. Always a safe place to meet a chum!

We were a group of 6, some of which had special food requirements, but we were all able to enjoy an amazing meal. A nice creative range of options on the menu, beautifully presented, with good service, and the pricing was not bad either. It's...More

From the banks of the Thames take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and the warm, wooden heart of award-winning The Royal Oak. Oak by name and oaken by nature - but not hard or austere: not a bit of it. Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone's home - it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It's journey's end.
