About
We are a grade 2 listed building built as private houses in the 1600's and converted into a pub in 1743. Since that date the premises have retained not just the name but also the licence. We have been independently owned and run since 1994 by our charming landlord Roger. We are in a great riverside spot, lots of interesting naval and nautical memorabilia to come and see and up to six well kept ales from small independent breweries , good value, home style, freshly cooked food, Enjoy a view of The Great Ouse from our raised vinery. or join us in the dining room with our beautiful rustic fireplace. well behaved dogs are also welcome here.

Why am I sharing this? too many customers will spoil it! This simply has to be the best public house in kings Lynn. You will not find a cleaner pub, everything is spotless, and what makes this even more remarkable is all the nik naks in the pub, all polished cleaned and dusted. But on to the food, now I have to be honest my knowledge of the food is at this moment in time based purely on Sunday lunch, having had possibly 10 there in total, let me tell you now, it is home, REAL home cooking at its best, plus I would wager no one could find a better view in Kings Lynn to dine in when you dine on the second floor, with unspoilt, and unobstructed views of the Ouse. High praise indeed? but take this into consideration, we take Sunday lunch out almost every Sunday, with lunches from £17 to £8, some we have gone back twice to? this one we keep coming back to. A great pub as I said with loads of character and a Landlord to match it!!!! did I say that!!!!!

My wife and I visited the Crown & Mitre after having it reommended to us and we were not disappointed. Both the landlady and landlord were very welcoming, the other customers were friendly there was a good choice of beers and the food was tasty and good value. We sat in the upstairs conservatory, overlooking the river which was a lovely place to have lunch. The service was also top notch and all Covid precautions were followed. We would not heitate to return.

We came upon this pub by chance and decided to have lunch. The landlady followed all the 'Covid' rules and made us feel very welcome. The food was simple, wholesome, well cooked and extremely good value for money. Quirky and interesting pub, an 'Aladdin's Cave' of memorabilia, and a fascinatingly 'frank', no-nonsense landlord.

Extremely warm welcome, even met at the door and helped in. My wife and I went for a quick bite to eat, we didn't want a multi chain everything the same pub. We wanted something local and a traditional old type pub with food. On entering the pub and with the door open it was plain to see this is the essence of a Kings Lynn old town pub next to a tidal Ouse river which the sun sets over and can be seen whilst eating in the upstairs enclosed balcony. Lot's and lot's of trinkets and objects of maritime history of Kings Lynn and beyond. Fantastic atmosphere, friendly locals, warm and cosy. Food: I opted for the Whole-tail scampi in breadcrumbs with home cooked chips, peas and side salad. Portion size was a good plate full and everything was piping hot and crisp salad. 1st Class pub food. Faultless. The wife went for a Jacket potato with cheese and beans and side salad. The potato was a huge oven baked spud piping hot again with cheese melted on top and baked beans. Again 1st Class and faultless. Beer: Cambridge bitter, Perfect temperature and well pulled. (no push button measures here). I found there to be a hidden host of all the old Kings Lynn people and the sailors and characters that have frequented this pub ingrained into the walls, doors, beams, floors, you name it. Proper old time pub run by a proper old time publican and wife. I take my hat of to you both, well done for keeping it the same and not bowing to change. When I tried to pay the bill by plastic I asked the landlord to take a drink for him and his wife as a way of showing my gratitude, expecting anything from £5 - £10 for 2 drinks and all he took was £1.00 and that was grudgingly taken. What do that tell you about the landlord of the Crown and Mitre. Kings Lynn. Highly recommended. We done this mid-week early evening. We will be back.

Just got back from having a drink and meal, well, what more can I say. We’ve just had the best 10oz gammon steak, 8oz rump steak, both with different accompaniments for £22.50. It was unbelievable. The pub itself could not be faulted with a bar spotlessly clean, slide a bottle or glass along and you would guarantee it would shoot off the end. Mine hosts are a husband and wife ably assisted by their daughter. If you’re down in Kings Lynn there, give a shot, it’s just past Wetherspoons but you wonder queuing to get in, bottle of wine £15 and you’ve got a beautiful view over the Great Ouse, especially at sunset.

This is not a modern gastropub it is far better - a real old style establishment with a authentic landlord and delicious fresh home cooked food. Plenty of artifacts and other memorabilia to study, all spotlessly clean and an upstairs conservatory overlooking the water makes for a very enjoyable evening. Lovely mushroom soup, light battered fish and apple and raspberry pie all for very reasonable price. Excellent service from Yvonne and nothing was too much trouble.

We spotted this pub as we left our car in the long-term car park at Common Staithe Quay. It has previous good reviews and lived up to the ratings given. There are good Covid arrangements and we felt very comfortable. We sat in the covered balcony area overlooking the River Ouse – a lot of mud at low tide but some interest from the pedestrian ferry operating just up river. The menu is basic good pub grub but the quality is well above average. My wife had scampi and chips and both were good. I chose gammon and egg with potatoes and vegetables – everything cooked to perfection, especially the vegetables. Both the landlord and his wife are really interesting to talk to.

Visited this pub for a quick drink and decided to book in for our last supper in beautiful Kings Lynn 24th October. We had veg lasagne, steak, fish n chips and cottage pie. All with lots of fresh veg and freshly cooked and homemade. The meal was fabulous with good company and great service at a very competitive cost. Our young waiter, Jack, and waitress, Lexi, were very professional and really enjoyed what they were doing and did it very well. They will go far. All in all, we would be there tomorrow if we didn’t live so far away !!!

We booked for a Sunday lunch and were greeted by the lovely Landlady who showed us to our table overlooking the tidal River. The food was freshly cooked and hot with several choices for each course. Our little dog was brought his own water bowl and a dog biscuit when our main course was served. We both had 3 courses at £13:50 a head - an absolute bargain. I had read few reviews about a 'grumpy Landlord' - he definitely wasn't, we both found him thoroughly entertaining.

Traditional old school pub in a gorgeous setting by the river. The landlord is a wealth of knowledge and a perfect character to. The landlady and her sister ( the chef) go out of their way to make sure your visit is pleasant and that you don't leave hungry. Packed of maritime and railway memorabilia ( some of which the landlord has built himself) your experience will not only be in a cosy pub, but a museum to! Choose to sit in the welcoming bar or upstairs in the enclosed vinery overlooking the river; either you will not be disappointed. Food is served between 12 and 1.30pm and again in the evenings from 6pm. Booking is advised and no one ever leaves hungry, Traditional pub grub which is definitely plentiful. If your visiting King's Lynn , then visit here; you won't be disappointed!

We booked in advance for Sunday roast, the lady actually remembered me as she said you have a vegetarian with you, although my partner isn’t veggie she’s not keen on most meat. I had the turkey & they did a sausages & veg for my missus, both were superb, fresh home cooked vegetables & roast potatoes & plenty of it. We sat upstairs in the orangery overlooking the river, very nice After lunch we sat in the bar for a couple of pints chatting with the landlord & some locals. Had a great day & cheers to Roger the landlord for having the craic with us top guy 👍🏽

Found the Crown and Mitre whilst staying nearby. We found the pub to have a relaxed atmosphere with a good choice of beers. The Landlord Roger has a great dry sense of humour that fits in so well with the quirkiness of this old pub. We decided to have lunch and sat in the upstairs conservatory area overlooking the river. I had a sausage baguette wich was super, proper sausage from a local butcher, and well cooked and presented. We will definitely be back again.

We used to frequent this pub years ago and thought it would be great to try out again under new ownership. On arrival we had to wait several minutes to be acknowledged but we're then taken straight to our table and given menus, no drinks were offered. After several more minutes someone arrived to take our order and we had to ask for drinks at the same time as our food. Again we waited an age and when asked about our drinks we were told that the computer had crashed so they hadn't gone through. Given that the new ownership is promoting the venue as a gastropub the food is at best average and not really at the level I would expect given the menu description and prices. Two of us ordered the veal which was chewy and we had to order a replacement potato side as we were told that the chef had spilt the last bag of triple cooked chips over the floor. When we ordered more drinks as the dessert was delivered we again waited forever and had to chase them up. If this pub is going to operate at the level it proclaims in the King's Lynn magazine it has a long way to go.

The food and beer here are very good. Staff are friendly, although could do with some training in customer relations (clearly not the fault of the staff). Pub is quirkily decorated on a nautical theme, and is well located, with lovely views of the estuary from the conservatory. However, the place was fairly busy when we visited, and seemed understaffed: the couple next to us walked out without finishing their drinks, after they had waited unsuccessfully for 20 minutes to place their food order (about the same length of time we had to wait - and then the food took an age to arrive). But what we liked least was the apparently very commercial attitude: they tried to charge us twice for a beer, and even charged us £2 for a small portion of butter that we didn’t order, but which nonetheless accompanied our main course. Above all, this pub seems to lack a professional manager. Sadly, we wouldn’t recommend.
