After a swift visit to see our friends house they are buying we popped into the Alma on the recommendation of the current owner. The welcome was so warm and genuine and the range and quality of the food was amazing. I will return for the special Suffolk pork pie starter alone. And to top it off it was great... More

On a cold Saturday, in deserted old Harwich we came across the Alma. We wanted a snack and drink and were really pleased with what we found. Typical pub, great atmosphere, warm and great food: and chips to die for. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Great value for money. Highly recommended.

Myself and my partner decided to eat here last night for our Valentine's dinner, I've lived in Harwich many years but never visited here for a meal. We were both very pleasantly surprised with the amazing food & service. I had the lobster which was divine, my partner had the crab which he also really enjoyed! We will definitely be... More

Stayed here for one night during a business trip. Top quality pub and B&B. Nice atmosphere, great beer selection and really delicious food. I couldn't resist the burger (one of the best I've ever eaten) but the menu also has plenty of more sophisticated dishes. The following morning's Full English Breakfast was equally delicious and superbly presented. It's been a... More

The Alma has been one of my favourite pubs for years; I don’t get to visit a lot as don’t live in the area, but, when I visit my dad who lives I Harwich I always pop in. Lovely pub, lovely food and an open fire = what more could you want? I recently stayed at the Alma in one... More

I found the evening meal, pork ,to be mouth-watering ,and the accompanying `kraut, some of the best outside Germany. The breakfast in the morning,a good English cooked, reached the spot on a cold winters morning. With offers of extra toast and coffee-in with the price-if one required. The restaurant had a very comfortable, traditional feel about ,and not too big and overwhelming, and the staff just... Booked a table here last minute for lunch on a Saturday and we were in for a real treat. The seafood particularly the oysters were lovely. The staff here are super friendly and relaxed. We all had a brilliant lunch good wine and thoroughly enjoyed this quirky place. Can't wait to return.

Individual flair abounds here. Booked for 4 with lunchtime lobsters. They come either grilled with garlic butter or thermidor. Great chips and a small tasty salad to accompany. Chose Poully Fume from the list at £29. Plain tables and chairs, buzzy bar and charming service. Easy parking on the quay a few yards away. Next time might go for a... More
