I would say avoid, but you've got to go in to see what a weird place it is. Completely empty bar a couple eating, tried to order a drink but hardly had any beer, no real ale or Guinness. Not very welcoming at all.

The Schooner is a very unusual place, on our first visit we went in for food and it was amazing. We had food and then sat in the bar for a few drinks and what an eerie place this is, it was very quiet due to the time of year and I'm sure we were the only ones in, us... More

We had booked accommodation for the New Year in Alnmouth (4 of us) and our friend had rung the Schooner Hotel and booked us in for a 3 course New Years Eve menu and there would also be entertainment. The lady our friend spoke to said they had just taken over but confirmed there would be food etc. We arrived... More

Well what can I say, Halloween 2016 will be remembered for ever. Bar staff great, grumpy old man in the bar funny. Drinks in the garden whilst waiting for the place to open - so glad Id took me own! Eventually booked in (thank you mum and daughter sorry cant remember your names). The building has a charm all of... More

Very quiet, when all other places in town are packed. Staff are friendly and helpful - also very apologetic! Hence the 2 stars and not 1. However the food was Indian and it was clearly a take away. Not sure how they are able to do this - especially if you order a sizzler than says it should come on... More

Like many older grander type hotels it is in decline unfortunately. We popped in for a drink on the afternoon of the beginning of a weeks holiday. It felt in decline and had seen better days, the beer was not good it had suffered from a distinct lack of turnover, it was quite old and just off and not pleasant.... More

This a cracking pub, we only had drinks here but it is full of character and the barman was so pleasant and welcoming, because he was not busy he told us all about the history of the hotel and ghostly tales. Definitely worth a visit

Called in for lunch before a beach walk and had not read any reviews. Tired decor but friendly staff and the bonus was the dog could sit with us for lunch. We both had fish and chips which was fine, have had better but to be fair have had worse. The portions were well above average.

There are some horror stories about this hotel on here, and they should be overlooked for the fact that the food is very good. We had a pizza than was hand-cooked and well-sized, and a cajun chicken burger that was made fresh from a good chicken breast. It's recently changed management, and once things are up to speed there any... More
