The great thing about this place is that they make the sushi after you order it. There is no risk of it sitting around. What we do is order the sushi a few hours ahead so that it is ready when we get there for...dinner. It takes a while to make sushi, I get that!. So, order ahead, reserve a table and enjoy!More

Great restaurant with friendly Japanese-Canadian owners. Service is always good, and we all look forward to dig into another Sushi platter.

My girlfriend and I have eaten at Irori numerous times in both their old location and their new one and I’ve never had an issue until tonight. We got there at 6:45 and were treated to menus very promptly. There were only people at 2...other tables when we arrived. One had already ordered before we got there and the other ordered right after we got our menus. We ordered our food, the girlfriend ordered some sushi rolls and I had the kimchi rice with chicken and extra vegetables (veggies are $3 and chicken $5 on the menu) . After we ordered the place started to fill up. The person that ordered right before us got their food then my girlfriend got her sushi rolls in about 15 min but no food for me. Then the table of 8 that came in after us started getting their food. Then the table that came after them got their food, so on and so on. The waitress never came back out to check on us or to see that the girlfriend was out of ginger, it was the guys from the kitchen bringing the food out to people. My girlfriend stopped eating her food for a while to wait for me to get mine and to get more ginger. She gave up waiting after another 10 min passed and finished her rolls sans ginger. At the 55 min mark I flagged down one of the guys as he was bringing food out to a table that arrived 30 min after us and asked him where my food was? He asked what I ordered and I told him. He went to the kitchen and I heard a little talking commotion going on. About 4 min later he comes out with a piping hot bowl of my dinner and tells me that they can’t put veggies on it?!?! I told him to pack it up to go cause I’ve already waited an hour and need to leave. He apologized claiming it was busy and that’s what took so long. When we explained that how busy it is doesn’t play into things when we got there and ordered BEFORE everyone else was even there. He just said it was busy and sorry. We went up to pay and the girl waitress was all of the sudden available and said sorry. I told her that I didn’t believe the busy story and that I thought they actually forgot my order. She just kept saying sorry. We told her we understood it’s not her fault but we should get a discount. She discounted the $5 for the chicken bringing the bill down from $49 to $43! I’m not impressed at all with this visit and it will seriously impact if I ever go back. I’m fine with occasional slow service but don’t take me for a fool and lie about forgetting about my order.More

Service was good, chef came to check on things a few times, we felt well taken care of, and left very satisfied.

I use to really like this restaurant. But the last few times we have gone, the service has been getting worse and worse. This time me and my wife went for supper and we sat down being the only people in the restaurant. It took...20 min for the server to come greet us. But before she greeted us she took 2 calls and took take out orders for customers... while we waited. So we finally ordered our food a half hour after stepping foot in the door. Part of my order came to the table about 15 min later and then we waited 30 minutes for the rest of the food to come. BUT! While the owner made our sushi at the visible sushi table. He coughed all over our food. Like I mean coughed and coughed and coughed all over it. Not once did he cover his mouth. So I of course didn’t eat my sushi. Then when we went up to pay, I said very politely that I didn’t want to eat my sushi because the owner/chef coughed all over it while he made it. And the server said “oh I know he does that a lot... I’m sorry” Then she proceeded to charge me for the entire meal. So I said “you are still charging me for the sushi? I didn’t even touch it” And she said “oh you don’t want to pay for it?” I don’t ever complain at restaurants but this was really disturbing how they all know that he coughs all over the food but they don’t do anything about it. I will never go back again!More

The three" legs" of Irori's "stool" - sushi, asian bbq and asian dishes are all outstanding. The hot pot is a wonderful dish, ditto the bento boxes, fresh rolls and the asian mains. The sushi is simple great. Always fresh, some quite inventive and unique,...always good. My only "knock" and its a bit minor is that the service is sometimes a bit odd. Two of us ate, her asian main came about 10 minutes before my sushi. With only two of us, its an odd meal. Odd, but not bad and the food was excellent, like always.More

The food is mediocre, I left still hungry. The meals all came out at different times so one of us sat with our meal while we waited for the second meal to arrive almost 10 minutes later. I wont be returning.

This place is a family favourite. The variety of food choices from stir fry to sushi or appetizers like Edamame beans or deep fried vegetables is amazing. The restaurant decor is nice and staff are pleasant.

We are from Calgary and there's no shortage of Asian food options there. Even so, Irori is a place that would be near the top of my list if we had it back at home. I love ordering a variety of food, and this place...can gladly oblige with some pretty unique options. Just about everything we've tried over the last 3 years has been good or great. Since last summer I have had to avoid gluten, so I was excited to see that they will still have options for me this year.More
