We went to the dyke to have some fresh air and we decided that the fog was too much so we came in for some food. The staff were so helpful, told us the rules to make sure everyone was safe.
We went for the set menu and it was such value for money, we were able to get a couple of bottles of water for the table and the service was so quick. Food was good too!
Ramona came and took our orders, she understood when we needed more time and was such a lighthearted woman! She is a wonderful staff member and made a grey day a bit lighter.

Well, we came for a family lunch today and we had a great time.
The food was served quick, it was hot, it was fresh and it was reasonably priced-especially considering the stunning location.
We were served by a blonde female waitress and we wish we had asked her name so we could name check her! However, having read all the great reviews about Sally on here I can only assume she was the lady who served us.
She is a star, a real credit to Vintage Inns. This woman is down to earth and honestly nothing is too much for her.
The food was great but Sally made a lovely lunch even better. Give that girl a pay rise.

I have been to this restaurant a few times and found it was okay but not great. This visit was different as we found we were sitting in the restaurant area rather than the casual dinning area. The difference was considerable , we didn't have to traipse up to the bar to place an order instead we were served at our table by Ramona who was a breath of fresh air being helpful and friendly. I have always regarded this sort of chain pub/restaurant as being rather plastic. But will now have to change my opinion. The food was hot and tasted good with reasonable potion size I will revisit this restaurant in the near future and will hope for the same high standard of service that i got this time.

I went to The Devil's Dyke pub on 02/09/20 with my other half, mum and sister for my mum's birthday to treat her to a day out and lunch. On entering the man who met us at the
entrance didn't really greet us as such, asked how many of us there was and seated us without really looking at us or saying anything else - there was no explanation of any Covid 19 precautions put in place, and there only appeared to be 1 hand sanitiser dispenser at the entrance, if there were more they were not shown to us. Sally who hosted us however, greeted us once finishing serving another table, was very warm and welcoming, and happy to help whenever you needed something. We ordered both drinks and food with her and she advised us on different drinks (as there was no drinks menu given) and dishes on the menu.
Our starters came out reasonably quickly, but we had to ask for cutlery as we had not been given any. The younger female server was pleasant enough, but would place your dishes and walk quickly off without checking if you needed anything else etc.. and could be quite abrupt (I don't think this was intentional, but it made it a bit difficult/awkward having to call her back a couple times when we needed something).
When the mains were brought out 2 were placed for my mum and sister, but myself and other half had to wait a fair few minutes before ours followed. It wasn't busy (maybe 4 tables including ours) so don't really know why this was.
My sister's onion rings with her burger were bendy and cold rather than hot and crispy as they should be, so we asked Sally for them to be replaced, she quickly sorted this for us, but the new ones were much the same so we didn't ask again. The meals overall were fine, my mum enjoyed her duo of lamb although it was more cooked than she would have had it (no option of how you would like it cooked was given so we assumed it's just cooked the same for everyone), though I thought my 'moving mountains' burger was a bit pricey for what it was - the house burger is only £2 more and you get a lot more with it. We had free dessert codes so we each got a dessert, and Sally made an extra effort to make sure my choice was suitable for me as I can't have dairy.
Overall it was pretty average, except for Sally who made the experience better just by being helpful and friendly, otherwise I would have rated lower. I hope she got the full amount of the tip we left her because she deserved it, but I can't say I'd be interested in going here again based on this experience.

Good Morning,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback on your visit to the Devils Dyke Hotel. Firstly let me apologise for the experience that you received and assure you it is not the norm for us.
We have put in place a large number of measures to ensure that everyone is kept safe during this difficult time including having hand sanitisers located at 4 locations throughout the building, toilets separated for males and females and socially distanced tables.
I will look into why there was a delay in between all of your main courses arriving at your table and ensure that this does not happen again.
Thank you for your kind words regarding Sally which we will pass onto her.
If you would like to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate in reaching out to us via email at devilsdykehotelbrighton@vintageinn.co.uk where hopefully we can try to make amends for your experience.

We are staycationing during August, (in the midst of the COVID pandemic and government backed EOTHO scheme).
This was our 7th restaurant we’d eaten out at during August, and one of the only ones who seemed to cope with the extra demand (surprise surprise- lots of people are about because we can’t travel abroad, and we want to take advantage of 50% off food!!!!). They also had good social distancing protocols, and managed to provide exceptional service and tasty food!
We had booked ahead, (advisable as it is the centre of the Devil’s Dyke area, popular for walkers as it’s so beautiful!
We had a waiter who hadn’t worked there very long but provided excellent service - checking with a manager when he was unsure of something.
The food arrived promptly, and all our party of 4 enjoyed our food tremendously!

Lovely pub in a beautiful setting, especially on a nice day.
Great service at the bar when ordering food, Caz was great and so good to speak to someone who knows the food for allergies and what can be adapted, food itself was ok, nothing special, & prices not too bad either. Lovely stop today!

Completely disappointed. Nice views that's for sure if you have a good table and waiters did what they could. We asked for a table by the window (there were plenty) we were told(i think manager) they were reserved and none available he said ,considering that it's a big pub there were plenty of tables for us to be acomodated. So next they send us to a table that was clearly wobbly almost on top of the table on the ceiling it was dripping water with a big stain of mould, carpets disgusting would dare to say are not cleaned for ages (with muddydogs in and out its the bare minimum) so while there talking with my friend I could se the drops of the water almost on his right shoulder and also a nice pair a of cob webs hanging on the top 🤦♀️. We have ordered the starters and just left.Starters were mushrooms with cheese and chunky chips it was aceptable. Waiters you could see them a bit unconfortable... as they did seen all of it but they seem not to be able to make any changes or sort it out etc. This actractive area place trully deserves better also we found it expensive the main courses available, I would expect those kind of prices if the prices would match with the rest which was not in any way or form ...we were unconfortle enough to take pictures but we did take from the views outside . Hope inprovements are made in the future.

Met our daughter and partner and two young children here for a meal today. As it’s a dog friendly pub they put us on a big table in the bar. We all had different mains and puddings. The food really couldn’t be faulted, very good value for money and, like other vintage inns we visited, the service was absolutely fantastic. Thank you Sally, 5/5

We visited here for a family 50th birthday celebration. Our waitress was so lovely and helpful from taking the orders, bringing the surprise cake out, and sorting out the best deal for us bill wise. She made the celebration a real personal experience and I cant praise her enough. The food was good value and everybody on our table enjoyed their meals. All the waiting staff were very helpful too and we found the menu very varied so something for everyone. We will be back x

I booked online, no problem. We arrived early and were promptly shown to our table. The waitress, Sally, quickly attended to our drinks order while we waited for the arrival of the last two guests. Sally's attention to my elderly mother's requirements and choices was excellent, checking for allergies and any other specific needs; the order was taken efficiently, accurately and with full descriptions. The prices were very reasonable everything was delicious, hot and delivered with reasonable speed and efficiency. The only blot was that my husband's steak (ribeye) was rather chewy in places but he assured me it was good enough.

My wife & I came here for a bit of lunch after a stroll around Devils Dyke. We decided to have 3 courses off the set lunch menu. The food was good (Your standard chain restaurant food.) and the service was pleasant.
There had been a bit of a glitch with their system which meant only the starters on orders had been sent through to the kitchen, not anything else; as a result, we ended up waiting a good 30-40 minutes between our starters and mains. The big wait was a bit of a dampner on the visit but these things happen every now and again; can't blame the restaurant for a temporary glitch with their system. As soon as the staff had realised there was an issue they immediately started getting it rectified and keeping customers updated so good bit of customer service there.

I visited the Devil’s Dyke Pub yesterday evening and what a delight it was. I hadn’t booked a table (which you apparently should do, as they have an easier time of getting you a seat) however the man at the door was really accommodating, even though they were pretty busy already, and I was allowed to order food at the bar. I was quite apprehensive about visiting a pub in the current climate but what a surprise this hidden gem of a pub is! Great system in place in the pub where you have to wait at the door and they seat you specifically to keep tabs on how many people are in the pub at one time and you’re not allowed in if you haven’t signed up to the track trace system. It’s a big, spacious pub so social distancing really is no problem at all and there are dedicated sanitisation stations dotted around the pub. Most tables seemed to be seated service so the queue at the bar is kept to a minimum at most times meaning pretty quick service at the bar. The bartender was a really lovely young girl who took the time to chat to me every time I went up for a drink, I really appreciated her being so friendly having been in lockdown for so long, it can be quite lonely and for her to stop and even have just a small conversation with me it was very warming. Thank you to her. The food came out swiftly once I’d taken my seat with staff spending minimal time next to you at the table when placing the food down. The food was delicious. I even got the Gov 50% off meaning it was a bargain too! You would think it would just be normal pub grub but there is such a broad variety to choose from and the chefs really go that extra mile with presentation.
Overall, a great visit. We will be returning soon, with a booked table this time!

My stepson booked a table to bring us out for a birthday lunch but we were very disappointed which was a real shame. Burgers were ok but an extra £1.50 for 2 bits of chorizo which were too chewy a bit overpriced. I had the trio roast couldn't cut through the beef, turkey was skin and potatoes were dry so only thing I ate was the veg and a small bit of pork. The starters were very nice though

Arguably the main draw to this pub is the location of course. You benefit from the views of the Devil's Dyke from nearly every seated area in this pub. Nevertheless, the menu is varied and the food very tasty and well presented. Good value for money. There are great options for everyone from picky eaters to people with strict dietary requirements to children.
Lovely drinks menu as well and friendly staff. I do think the service system could be clearer: when we went there were about 6 different menus but arguably it was close to the Christmas period which is understandable.
The pub could also be cleaner, it needed a good dust to say the least.
Overall, I would recommend, it has great character and is a really great place to stop off and appreciate the scenery after a memorable walk.

We were able to park at the pub, walk a circuit in wet windy storm Dennis last week and received a very warm friendly welcome by the staff there, a great Sunday late afternoon lunch by an open fire. We could dry off nice.y. Our 2 vegetarians ate a hearty meal, and the chef happily cooked us extra veg even after we’d started eating. Will definitely return with dogs as noticed other dog walkers and families with very young children were equally welcomed
