I had heard about this traditional dish and it became my first meal in Chiloe Island. When the dish, served in a hand carved oblong wooden bowl, arrived at the table it looked innocently enough. I love mussels and clams. The shells were much larger than I had ever eaten before. But as I ate my way through the heap... More

I join a tour and this restaurant was reserved for me. The location and view is good. The starter, crab salad is very good indeed. However, the main dish, conger, is not cooked well! I think this is not acceptable. This kind of fish cannot be prepared as raw, not sushi.

It was terrible : we have been wainting our meals for more than 1 hour and 15 min, although the restaurant was almost empty ! The prices were quite high regarding the amount of time spent at waiting, and the taste well ... it was disappointing, really disappointing. The room is cold, it could really get better, but I probably... More

Some Canadian friends had recommended this restaurant. And in fact, the restaurant boast a picture of the a former Lieutenant General of Canada. In a former life perhaps. The grilled garlic pulpo (octopus) was chewy and dry and without garlic. The crab claws were dry - no garlic. The crab crepes were OK. All the plates were cold and the... More

Don Octavio's is one of many palafitos (houses on stilts) restaurants in Chilóe. The view was great. The food and service were mediocre. My curanto, a shellfish stew including chicken, pork and potatoes, was far less tasty than others I have eaten on our way to Chilóe. We were all disappointed in our first experience in Chilóe.

If you are crazy about fresh seafood, then Chiloe is for you. When in town, head for the waterfront across from the bubble gum pink Unicornio Azul hotel, and you are in for a treat. The place has a Franck Sinatra touch about it, and so does the music. Dishes includes the elusive curanto, a local fish stew that contains... More

The menus came to our table right away, our order didn't. We waited almost half an hour until the complementary bread and pebre came, nothing else came though. We called another waiter about our order and then our drinks came 10 minutes after. The restaurant was "waiterless". Everybody was behind a weird curtain that separated our part of the diningroom... Went for dinner with two kids, sat for more than half an hour and never even received a menu. The restaurant wasn't full and one of my kids went to ask for service twice. Never found out what the food was like, but definitely not going again purely based on the awful service.

We stopped in for an early dinner on a Friday night about 7PM. There was almost no one there (October - off season), so we were very slightly apprehensive. The waitress was assisted at times by the cutest 2 year old who I assume was her daughter, in a laid back family atmosphere. We sat out on the "back porch"... More
