The Red Top Motor Inn restaurant exceeded my expectations for a restaurant in this area. The chef is a delight. I recommend the fish pakoras. The fish tastes so fresh and tender and the batter is so delicious and flavourful. If you love cumin and...other wonderful spices you will love them. They are one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! They were so good I went back to get more for my trip home. The mango lassi is also really delicious. Definitely worth ordering. The red top motor inn restaurant is a northern gem.More

We have stopped at this modest motel every time we’ve gone to northwestern Ontario, probably 5 times in the past 10 or so years. In fact we’ve scheduled our itinerary so as to stay here on our way to camping north of Lake Superior. It’s...always been a great place if quite dated and needing a little TLC. We’ve also always travelled with at least one sometimes two small dogs. Never a problem. This year, again we stopped for an overnight stay. We have a ten lb chihuahua, same as last year. We were sorry to see that it had been sold last fall as we really liked the previous owners but these people seemed nice. We got our room, nothing fancy for sure, the screen door was broken, the a/c took about two hours to cool off the room enough to sleep but the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot so we weren’t complaining. We got dinner at the cafe there, club sandwiches which were mediocre and breakfast of omelette, toast and hash brown, again fine but not the food once served here which was excellent. But I was all set to give it 4 stars for the cost, comfort and shower. However, about 5 hours after checking out we received a angry call from, I can only assume was the manager, we we’re still driving to our campsite. He was yelling at us that we had a dog in our room but hadn’t told him. I told him I was sorry that I didn’t know I had to tell him because we never had to before but he kept yelling and mocking m saying, “ You didn’t know! You didn’t know! Like I was making it up! If he wanted more money (although at $125 including tax, it wasn’t THAT cheap, I would have e-transfered it to him but I couldn’t get a word I. And just said that he was being rude so I’m hanging up, and I did. We had planned on staying there again on our way home but won’t ever stay there again. I’m still shocked at a business person phoning and yelling at a customer.More

The Food was top shelf. The butter chicken is a must. Clean rooms & very, very friendly family owned business. Was a one night stay on our way on a fishing trip. Cheers!!

Had an easy check in, dated room but it's part of the vibe. Clean. Had butter chicken and WOW, it was the best butter chicken I've had.

We were very disappointed with our stay here - the room was very dated, especially the bath room. There was also a musty smell. The person who checked us in was very rude and acted as though we were a bother to him. The most...disappointing thing was that the restaurant was closed on Tues and there was no place in town to eat. We had to drive to Blind River.More

I am from this area of the country and looking forward to a Whitefish dinner. We ordered and it was very slow and then the came overcooked and potatoes bland so disappointed for the price we paid.

Second time staying here, room price very reasonable. It is clean and a step back to 1961. Wifi and coffee machine yes, refrigerator no. Restaurant is great for dinner and breakfast. Desserts don't come from a factory. Menu changes often, food is superb. Great service...without the syrupy fluff. Definitely not a greasy spoon. Each dish has just the right amount of flair to make it unique.More

I've lived about an hour away from here most of my life and drive by a hundred times when leaving town. The humble outside and prominence of the Motel part made me give it but a head turn. On a recent motorcycle trip with a...buddy we were due for lunch and nothing else was open so we tried it... White tablecloths, haute cuisine, but local food prices!!! Don't let that drive you away if you have kids! The two owners there have had it for 20 years, the chef is dressed as a chef (nice change over the t-shirt cook), and I will now plan my travel around landing here to eat for lunch or dinner. A MUST STOP PLACE TO EAT.More

I remember dining at this establishment as a young child with my grandparents, who had retired in the area near Bright Lake. Close to 30 years later I was able to take my wife here for her 30th birthday. Very affordable, upscale cuisine and wine...choices, considering the area! Who would think you could enjoy a squid ink seafood pasta dish, or housemade salmon gravlax, with a lovely bottle of Rioja, in the quaint little village of Iron Bridge. The owners even enhanced our experience by allowing me to drop off a special jewellery gift for my wife ahead of time, to be presented during dessert. If you happen to be visiting the area, do not pass up a chance to try out the Red top. You will not be disappointed! Two thumbs up! (P.S. if they have the cheesecake made with goat's cheese, give it a shot, amazing!)More

We stopped for lunch and hoped to experience a special meal, based on these reviews. The food gods were not with us that day, however.. I ordered the club sandwich and my husband had the lamb burger. The club was made on ordinary bread and...there was nothing special about it. And nothing with it, either, not even a garnish. For $12. The lamb burger was dry and unflavourful. There was supposed to be a sauce on it but it was well hidden. So, I guess we missed out. The varied menu written on the chalk board had several nice sounding entrees, but were a bit too pricey for a quick lunch. There were some cute souvenir items for sale. And, I was happy to see Ontario wines on the wine list.More

We were near Iron Bridge for a birthday party and heard this was a good place to eat. A great referral. The menu offers travel staples like salads, burgers, sandwiches and entrees. They also have a daily menu offering an interesting selection of meals. The...server was very knowledgeable about allergies, including gluten free requirements, and pointed out meals that were, or could be made, gluten free. All 4 of us had excellent meals.More

WE arrived late at almost eight pm after a long days driving. The manager allowed us to squeak in at the very last minute to eat. Spaghetti with wild leek (ramp) pesto was delicious. After having spent a few days in Michigan where the only...things that seem to be on the menu are burgers in some form or another, wraps and ersatz Mexican food, this real food was very welcome. Other menu specials included, mussels, lamb chops and a chicken dish A serving of cardamom cake with a nice ice cream was a great finish to our meal. The prices were fair, service was pleasant and attentive but not pushy. Coffee was good quality and the cup was refilled . wine and beer were available. If you find your selves on this long stretch of highway from the Soo to Sudbury, do try to get a meal here. you wont regret it.More

I am sure this is a quaint and interesting place for couples but it’s not appropriate for children. We were travelling and needed to stop for dinner but they don’t have anything really appropriate for children and the prices were too high for kids who...wouldn’t appreciate the flavours. My wife and I didn’t order anything much because we knew it would be a hefty bill as it is. Again, the menu looks great for the more discerning diner but wasn’t for us.More

My wife and I stopped by the Red Top Motor Inn on our anniversary as we were in the area and heard the food was good. When you look at this place from HWY 17W you may think another greasy spoon on the highway with...the usual suspects on the menu. We opened the door to this quaint little place and found ourselves swept away from HWY 17 to a little bistro in Paris. The decor was clean and the windows added a bright ambience to the room. We sat down and I noticed the soft French music and that this maybe something different than I expected. The waiter came over with the menu which yes had the usual type of fair but the specials of the day spoke of cafe and not diner. My wife ordered a fettuccini dish and I ordered Duck which I had never had in my life. We chilled and listened to the music and the waiter soon came by with fresh made bread with a home made garlic butter. Well no what was what I call garlic butter, it was light airy, and had a garlic flavour that was enjoyable. We sat and chatted and that music had a way of taking you from HWY 17 to that Cafe. The food came in good time and my duck with an orange/rhubarb sauce was immaculate, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the take on the fettuccini as it was not like a heavier Italian Dish. At the end of the or main courses I ordered a chocolate cake and my wife ordered cream brûlée. From first bite to end it was heavenly and truly a great way to end what was a great meal. Great service, great food that takes you off the highway on a culinary journey all in an unassuming little cafe in Iron Bridge Ontario.More
