Since my favorite Mexican burned down recently I've been looking for a new place. El Jalapeno is located in a strip mall behind a car wash. The decor was stereotypical Mexican. The service staff were barely able to speak English and were not very welcoming. I had a wet chicken burrito combination with flavorless rice and beans, thin sauce, and... More

Small restaurant. Family orientated. Food good but not memorable. Restaurant is clean but decore is normal "Mexican". Plastic on tables and menus are a bit greasy. Went on Mother's Day, so I understand it was very busy, however service was very slow. We waited 20 minutes to just get drinks and then they didn't get all out drink order. Overall... More

You know when you walk in, and the restaurant is full of Mexicans, that it's going to be good, traditional food--and it is. We had two lunches over two days--4 different meals, and all were exceptionally good---fresh ingredients, friendly (Mexican) staff, great Mexican beer selection, ample parking, non rushed atmosphere. Makes for a very convenient and comfortable meal. I gave... More

The food is very reasonably priced and the flavor was wonderful. They bring you tortilla chips and beans and salsa while you look at the menu. They also serve beer wine and mixed drinks. I wish a small salad was included with the dinners. Will definitely return.

It's not gourmet faire, but if you're out in the Hemet area and looking for good food at a good price, this is the place for you. We tried the carne asada, which was priced at about $9. It was a decent-sized cut of marinated beef, which came with rice and beans. Combinations start at $7, and Mexican Breakfast is... More

Just north of the Hemet Depot, in an unimposing strip center, is a hidden gem of Mexican cuisine. Walk in, smell the aromas, and your tummy will tell you that you are home. The menu shows a wide variety and all food is freshly prepared. Enjoy the hot corn chips with excellent salsa as you await your meal. It is... More

I broke my own rule. For good tacos, you need to go to a taqueria. As nice as the atmosphere is inside El Jalapeño, the food falls far short of acceptable Mexican cuisine. In my opinion, when you add a large dollop of guacamole to anything, all you taste is the guacamole. This is what they did to the carnitas... More
