This place consists of 4 parts, 1) tourist gift shop, 2) ice cream parlor, 3) cafe/restaurant, 4) scenic garden. The gift shop has some date-themed products, but is otherwise filled with all kinds of tourist tat that you could get from any $1 store. The ice cream parlor is convenient if you have a hankering for that. We didn't try... More

A visit to the Coachella Valley would not be complete without a visit to Shields. We were surprised to see that the parking lot was very full. This must be caused by the success of their relatively new restaurant cafe opened in the rear. We stopped and enjoyed a couple of date shakes ( very sweet but also very tasty),... More

Hasn't changed much over the years so gift shop and cafe area very outdated. Can be very crowded during the tourist months so bring lots of patience if staying for lunch. Small indoor eating area and good sized outdoor patio that gets very hot in the desert sun. Menu ($$) is varied with breakfast items served until 2:30 pm. Overflow... More

A typical tourist trap, but the date shakes are great. I was a little put off when I tried to order date nut coffee. They never heard of it. The film is interesting as far as the history of the venue, but great for a nap. The food was also excellent and no need for reservations.

We saw date palms and then we saw more date palms. If you love dates then this is the place for you. There are lots of date products to buy in the store and, yes, of course, you must try a date shake.

Incredibly delicious fresh dates. Unlike an bought packaged in supermarkets. Pleasant staff and tasting counter of the numerous varieties. A good place to visit.

We started with the 15 minute film about the start of Shields and the very labor and time intensive date production. I highly recommend seeing the film which is on a loop. You can eat/drink in the 108 seat theater. We each bought a date shake which was very good. My only complaint was the width of the straw. They... More

A friend said we must go to Shields Date Farm, so we did. We had no idea what to expect - it was great! There is a huge gift shop that you enter first. You can sample every type of date. I didn't know there were so many varieties. Delicious! There is a cute little theatre that has an ongoing... More

It's hard to miss this Date farm on Hwy 111 with all the signs pointing the way. We had never been here before and it is a one of a kind~~ We watched the reel "sex life of a date" which was interesting. I think they have ever kind of date imaginable. The parking is free and if you eat... More

One of the only places left of the old desert scene! Don't let the old facade fool you, it's a great, old iconic travel stop that has been around since the late 1920's. Every date imaginable is available at Shields, shop in the eclectic store, have one of their famous Date Shakes, or come for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If... More
